1973-1975 "Scooby Doo" Mashup

Having appeared in a well-received 1972 episode of The New Scooby-Doo Movies, “Scooby-Doo Meets the Addams Family” (see above), which saw Astin, Jones, Coogan and Cassidy return to voice their TV roles. Hanna-Barbera were encouraged to bring the family to animation for their own show. The result was this cartoon, with the characters were modelled on Addams’ comic panels, which ran for two seasons (although the second was just repeats). A big change to the format was having the family hit the road in a Wacky Races-style Victorian motorhome.

Sadly, while Coogan and Cassidy returned to voice Fester and Lurch, the others stars of the 1960s show were replaced by Lennie Weinrib (the voice of Scrappy-Doo) as Gomez, Janet Waldo (the voice of Penelope Pitstop) as Morticia, Cindy Henderson as Wednesday, and — incredibly — a 10-year-old Jodie Foster as Pugsley!

This show also altered established mythology, so that Uncle Fester became Gomez’s biological brother, not his brother-in-law, which has become a mainstay ever since.
