Types of "Publications"

About Types of Publications

In this section, you will get ideas on different finished products/publications your school can offer. You could have a print paper, an online newspaper, a hybrid online newspaper that connects its print editions, a YouTube channel for videos, a Sound Cloud account for podcasts, or a yearbook. Maybe you already advise one of these types of publications. Either way, there are lots of different places you can publish or house your students' work.

#1 Rule: Create Your Accounts with an Email Not Attached to a Person

Many journalism programs are continuing to build programs online. Whatever platform you are using (Google Sites, SNO, social media accounts, YouTube, Sound Cloud, Anchor), make sure you set it up with a NON student email account. Almost everything needs an email to register.

A student will be eager to create the account for whatever the new platform is, and they will attach it to their school or personal email. The problem with that is the account dies when they graduate.

Pro Tip: Ask you IT department to create an email account for your publication. That way all the accounts will live on after students graduate and after you retire.
