About Podcasts
In this section, you can find some lessons and ideas for teaching podcasts. There are lots of different ways to approach this. You could have students create short news stories, longer pieces with in-depth reporting, talk show formats, and so much more. How you record and edit this depends on the technology you have accessible to you and your students. If you don't have fancy computers and software, no big deal. Students can record the narration on their cell phones and edit in WeVideo.
You remember SSR? Silent Sustained Reading. You need to bring this back but in the form of listening. A lot of students aren't that familiar with podcasts, so they need to listen to some to get the hang of what they will be creating. While you are teaching them about podcasts, writing, editing, featured images, and more, have them engage in SSL— silent sustained listening. Dedicate class time or homework time to this.
Here is a handout I use. They track their hours, podcasts, episodes, and thoughts on what they are listening to.
