Used by the Imperial Chinese Army as an affordable alternative to manufacturing ammunition from lead and brass. These rifles come in various forms and inflict the equivalent of an over penetrating .45 ACP round alongside 3rd - 4th degree burns around the area of impact, effectively cauterizing the wound on impact. The rifle uses rechargeable fusion cells, with each cell requiring about 80 shots before it needs to be replaced.
The rifle is somewhat effective against body armor, with a few well placed shots being able to melt a kevlar vest. Against harder body armor like ceramics and steel plates, the QBJ-31 will be able to melt through the armor with approximately 10 shots in the same area. This has the unfortunate effect of scalding the target at the point of impact, as the melted metal sears their skin.
There are other rifles made by remnants of the ICA scraping multiple broken rifles to make a new one. One of these, the so called ‘Scattershot’ style of weapons, often fail to penetrate in any kind of way but do cause a nasty 2nd degree burn around the target’s exposed skin and scatter on the way towards the target, allowing it to hit targets in a wide, albeit unpredictable, spread.
