Flip your research pages, furiously scribble on notebooks, and boldly voice your opinions; Welcome to TESMUN 2024. To a place that isn't just a simulation, but a breeding ground for future diplomats; Cheers. You have battled, fallen off your horse during your practice sessions, and gotten right back up. Now it is up to you to flourish.
I know that MUN has shaped me into a better individual, whether by polishing my negotiating abilities, sharpening my Critical Thinking skills, or giving me the platform to express my viewpoints. Today I am glad to be the Secretary General who discusses politics with her father over tea. I hope you welcome MUN as a similar opportunity, as something to be cherished and looked forward to, something to learn from and something to be experienced to the fullest.
As your Secretary General, all I can tell you is the truth. Diplomacy is not easy and it is not supposed to be. So the next time you raise your placard, recognize its weight and realize that in your small hands, you are not just holding a piece of metal but also the gravity of the world. Understand,You are holding answers to real-life problems, problems you may be in the position to solve one day. These three days, put yourself in the position of a family in GAZA, of a family deprived of bread, of two lovers separated by war, of lost families, of having to live in radioactive conditions, of political instability, and unleash the power of your voice because, after all, Malala Yousafzai says, "When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful."
If I Could give you one weapon to fight off a crisis, I'd give you the ability to express. Because to express is to acknowledge and to acknowledge is to find half of the solution.
Good luck, Delegates!
