For TESMUN PRESS 2024
Monday, September 9
After much anticipation, the final session of TESMUN 2024 began with an opening ceremony, during which all the heads of the MUN programme were awarded their respective badges by MUN coordinator Mr. Govinda Gautam. Following that, the school principal, Mr. Prashant Rajak, was invited on stage to distribute gavels to the committee chairs. With the ceremony concluded, delegates and the dais proceeded to their respective committees.
Once the committee convened, roll call was conducted, and delegates raised a motion for the General Speakers’ List (GSL). The motion was introduced by Upendra Yadav (Binayak Babu Rana) and Rabi Lamichhane (Aakarshi Paudel). The approved topic for discussion was “Federalism: Challenges and Successes Encountered and Strategies for More Effective Governance,” raised by the delegate of Rabi Lamichhane (Aakarshi Paudel).
The GSL commenced with the first speaker, Bishwa Prakash Sharma (Abhash Kunwar). Subsequent speakers, including Sher Bahadur Deuba (Ritika Pyakurel), faced accusations from the delegate of Rabi Lamichhane (Aakarshi Paudel), who alleged that relatives of Deuba were involved in arms deals with China. Other accusations followed, creating a tense atmosphere in the room, with delegates eagerly questioning and challenging each GSL speaker.
As the GSL continued, the MUN crisis of the third session unfolded, naming key political figures like KP Sharma Oli (Ayushma Shrestha), Sher Bahadur Deuba (Ritika Pyakurel), Gagan Kumar Thapa (Anishka Kuikel), and Bishnu Prasad Paudel (Alisa Rijal) as the focal points of the crisis discussion. The delegates engaged in smart, strategic debates, accusing each other of various faults and attacks. The lively exchanges filled the room, with updates to the crisis adding unexpected twists that required delegates to address challenging questions. The issue of Madhesh Pradesh was also brought into the debate, adding further complexity to the discussion.
After an intense round of debates, the delegates eventually reached a consensus by forming a peace treaty. However, the discussion remained heated as both parties argued over what the best resolution to the crisis should be. The final agreement called for the leaders involved in the crisis to be placed under house arrest, while Upendra Yadav (Binayak Babu Rana) was asked to resign from his post, though this request was ultimately declined.
With the peace treaty finalized, the committee shifted its focus to drafting and passing Resolution 1.1, concluding the session.
