This project will show statistics on how social media affects people's lives and the impact it has on society.
The quiz said I was "pretty inseparable" to social media.
My Thoughts: I would agree but disagree. I do get the "scrolls" meaning once I get on instagram or social media I get hooked and end up losing track of time but I feel like if I have something to do than I don't feel the need to get on social media.
The most popular social media is youtube. This fact alone surprises me. I didn't realize how popular youtube was I guess since I don't use it very much and my main go to is instagram. I'm also shocked at the gap between men and women's use of instagram along with facebook and tiktok. I personally thought men would spend more time on these sites. I think I correlated video games to social media and just expected men to be a bigger user. The gap of over 10% is bigger than I expected. I did think gender wasn't that big of a factor but I was wrong.
My Opinion: In my opinion, social media has ruined society. In my personal experience it is very addicting and I'm not even that bad compared to other people. It is hard to stop scrolling once you get started. That's not all, the amount of fact news on social media now adays is a crisis, especially with the ability of AI, I can't tell what's real and what's not any more and it is scary. The amount of information people believe because of what one influencer who just says some random crap without thinking is a dangerous fact that really hurts society. I also think that it ruins lives do to the fact that influencers literally make money faking everything, saying dumb stuff, or other trends that are brainless and hold no value other than what people put on it through views. This leads people to quit jobs and turn to OnlyFans and trying to be influencers which for a lot of people don't work out. As you can probably tell it makes me mad that people go viral for one thing and then suddenly makes a ton of money when I work 3-4 jobs and have to struggle to earn a living, and seeing all these fashion influencers spending thousands on bags and clothes is just infuriating.
What I learned doing this project is that I really do need to take control of my social media use. It has gotten out of hand and I can be more productive if I spent half as much time on my school work or chores than I do on the internet. I didn't think too much about demographics when it comes to social media use but it does make sense. I found it funny the differences in democrats vs republican use of different sites.
