Deming High Robotics Earns 2nd Place at NMSU BEST Regional Competition
The Deming High School Robotics Team, Team Thundercats, competed at the New Mexico BEST Regional Robotics Competition, held October 18, 2025 at New Mexico State University, earning an impressive 2nd Place Overall Finish among teams from across the state.
The event, themed “Factoids,” challenged students to design, build, and program a robot capable of completing a series of complex, real-world-inspired tasks designed to "train artificial intelligence using a neural network pathway. The team was tasked with inventing a robot that could collect factoids from the playing field and place them in different positions in the game field in order to earn points toward a winning round.
Deming’s Thundercats impressed judges and spectators alike with their innovative robot design, strategic gameplay, and exceptional teamwork throughout the competition. Their robot performed with precision during multiple rounds of driver-controlled challenges, demonstrating both technical skill and creativity.
In addition to their strong finish in the robot performance category, the team earned the Founder's award for creative design.
The competition brought together students from middle and high schools across New Mexico to celebrate STEM innovation and teamwork. For the Thundercats, the experience was about more than just trophies—it was about growth, creativity, and representing Deming with pride.
The Deming High School Robotics Team extends special thanks to their mentors, sponsors, and the Deming community for their continued support.
