Project Title - Exploring The WPA In New Orleans
The WPA (Works Projects Administration) was an agency started when Franklin D. Roosevelt was President of the U.S. The President signed an executive order in 1935 to create the WPA. The purpose of it was to employ millions of unemployed men to work on public works projects. Much of what they worked on were projects such as schools, bridges, roads, parks, etc.
The WPA played an important role in the history of New Orleans during the Great Depression. Many of the projects can still be seen in New Orleans today. The students will visit some of the areas in New Orleans to see if they still exist. They take pictures and post their images on a Google Map, showing before and after pictures.
