Click on the placemarker pins to open windows that contain discussion questions, written by Carol LaRow's 7th grade students, which can be used in class to arrive at the meaning and theme of the novel. Each link contains chapter summaries and additional WEB resources, which help students understand the time period of the American Revolution.
Don't miss the links at the bottom of the KMZ file which contain additional resources, links to the Library of Congress, and primary source documents, webquests, and online games for learning about the revolution and Colonial Times. The WPA (Works Projects Administration) was an agency started when Franklin D. Roosevelt was President of the U.S. The President signed an executive order in 1935 to create the WPA. The purpose of it was to employ millions of unemployed men to work on public works projects. Much of what they worked on were projects such as schools, bridges, roads, parks, etc.
The WPA played an important role in the history of New Orleans during the Great Depression. Many of the projects can still be seen in New Orleans today. The students will visit some of the areas in New Orleans to see if they still exist. They take pictures and post their images on a Google Map, showing before and after pictures.
Please note: The project is still under construction.

Students in Iroquois Middle School study about Paul Revere's Midnight Ride on April 18, 1775. Paul Revere watched for a signal from Old North Church that told him which way the British soldiers ("Regulars") were marching from Boston to the Massachusetts countryside. The soldiers wanted to capture the patriot leaders, and they wanted to end a rebellion before it started.
Paul Revere was a member of the "Sons Of Liberty." He knew he had to warn the patriot leaders, Sam Adams and John Hancock, that the British were on their way to arrest them. He also wanted to warn his fellow countrymen that the British were headed to Lexington and Concord. He rode through the night, spreading the alarm along the way. His famous ride is an important part of American history.

4th grade students study about their home state - New York. They wrote reports about topics they chose, and followed 10 steps outlined by the teacher. They did research on the WEB, referred to reports done by other students in former years, used Web browsers for their research, used Google Docs to organize their thoughts, and submitted final essays. Students also created slide presentations. When done, they gave presentations on their topics to their classmates.
