Student Working Example
Sculpture is beyond pieces of marble on pedestals, it's the very three-dimensional objects that surround us, that we live in. Everyday students - intentionally or not - choose to express themselves through their clothing; garments that represent our time and societal values. Taking this inspiration and working in groups of four to five, students brainstormed issues they felt passionate about. Together choosing one final issue, each group spent weeks ideating, constructing and showcasing fashions based on these topics constructed entirely from found materials. Students glued, sewed, taped, and tied dividing and evaluating their group work at multiple points to bring together a final vision. Eventually through a multi-day critique the groups wrote an collective artist statement to be displayed alongside their garments in the school library!
