Student Working Example
Covering multiple facets of jewelry making from previous skill building exercises, this unit employs the use of mathematical planning and written ideation through the artistic process. Starting with fold forming metal shapes from their own sawing, the students learned how to both kiln and torch fire enamel through trial and error to complete two interesting pieces. Next, choosing one of their enameled works the students took to planning in their sketchbooks, ideating how to properly and uniquely tab set their creation into a pendant. Working through sanding, filing, annealing, and final surface design (i.e.: stamping, texturizing, polish, and/or patina) the students showcased their abilities not only in jewelry making but in how to conceive and work through ideas through creative critical thinking to reach a finished work.
