Student Working Example
In this particular studio, the students get divided into two groups, HB: Hand Builders and WP: Wheel People, with each having a similar project with different ways of making. After the first quarter, the two groups switch and learn the other process and skills including: slab rolling, slip and scoring, handle pulling, wheel centering and pulling, wedging, trimming, and a variety of underglaze techniques such as brushing, Sgraffito, Mishima, and underglaze transfer. Among this skill building, students are shown a multitude of methods and tools they can modify for their own style as artists and learners to best adapt to their needed which can range anything from learning how to open a ceramic vessel on the wheel with acrylic nails to working around sensory issues to still best achieve their desired result. The final results were a variety of work from functional mugs to decorative vases that worked as a framework for students' artistic self-expression and a steppingstone to more elaborate ceramic creations.
