Student Working Example
What kind of story do you want to tell? This was the prompt for the final project in level two ceramics. Most likely the last ceramic class most students will be enrolled in, this pinnacle assignment was a result of a week of extensive research into art history, contemporary artists and self-expression through meaning making. A choice work, the artists were allowed and encouraged to use any ceramic technique to achieve their final and ambitious design. Students made a calendar and checkpoints to hold themselves aacoutanble along this month-long unit, and before beginning, had a one-on-one meeting with their teacher (me) detailing their final project and research. Each student was also given a specific objective to improve upon based on past assignments such as finesse or time management. What resulted was some of the most ambitious, creative, out of the box, and elaborate ceramic art that broke the mold of schoolwork. With high engagement, each student was not only able to home in their ceramic skills but to critically understand their artist voice through meaning making.
