Why we march
Stonewall was an uprising against police brutality. Since the lynching and murder of George Floyd, Minneapolis has become ground zero in the fight against police murder, including an uprising that shook every major city in this country. Queer and trans community members continue to be targets of ongoing police violence, so the fight against police terror is our fight. This march is explicitly anti-cop and anti-corporate. We are Black-led, trans-led and Left-led.
In that spirit, the front of march and the post-march stage will be reserved for our most-impacted community members and organizations that support the demands of the movement. This also applies to the rest of the protest at every level.
Who will lead
We will prioritize space at the front of the march and on the stage as follows:
Black trans/queer/NB folks - especially our Elders and youth who are frontliners, those living with disabilities or functional barriers, and youth - along with any loved ones or comrades
Families of those impacted by police crimes and wrongfully incarcerated
Black-led movement organizations will also lead (we request that BIPOC trans/queer folks of those groups lead their contingents)
Organizations that endorse the march demands and organizing principles, with LGBTQ-led organizations to the front (see below)
Other community members, and organizations that support the march but not every demand may join in behind the leading contingents. Those who cannot agree with every demand/principle can march at the end if they are Black, Trans/Queer/NB, or IPOC. Those hostile to our people and/or our movements will be asked to leave and expected to comply.
Our Demands
Convict all four officers involved in George Floyd’s murder
Justice for all victims of police murder including Daunte Wright and Winston Smith
Defend Black Trans Folks- no bathroom bills or medical gatekeeping
Community Control of the Police - until there are no more police, we have a right to say who polices our communities and how
Stop Line 3 and all attacks on indigenous rights
Free all political prisoners and the wrongfully incarcerated
Free Palestine! - US police and Israeli forces share and exchange tactics used in their occupation of oppressed communities. Furthermore, apartheid Israel enforces anti-LGBT laws that oppress Palestinians.
March organizing principles (AKA the St. Paul Principles)
Our solidarity will be based on respect for a diversity of tactics and the plans of other groups.
The actions and tactics used will be organized to maintain a separation of time or space.
Any debates or criticisms will stay internal to the movement, avoiding any public or media denunciations of fellow activists and events.
We oppose any state repression of dissent, including surveillance, infiltration, disruption and violence. We agree not to assist law enforcement actions against activists and others.
If your group would like to join us, please contact TCC4J on facebook or by email ( justice4jamar@gmail.com ). Affirm that you support the posted march demands and organizing principles, and we’ll reserve your spot!
