This final week will be given as time for questions about finishing lessons and to catch up on work already assigned. Grades close on June 12 at the end of the school day. I cannot accept any work after this time.
This has been a challenging situation for everyone. I am so proud of the students who have put in so much effort and have made great creative choices when completing their lessons. It was a pleasure to review your artwork.

Hello artists,
I’m just checking in to see how your flamingo drawing is coming along. I bet you are adding beautiful, bright color. Those flamingos are really bright! Make sure you finish ALL the background. You might need to decide what kind of day you want it to be... maybe rainy or cloudy or maybe there is a rainbow in the sky. I wonder if anyone used paint for this lesson. That would be fun!

*This is a 2 week project.
Hello Artists,
This week we are going to use ovals to make a beautiful pink bird. It is called a flamingo. A flamingo likes to hang out in lakes and ponds where plants grow too. This special bird has very long legs. His body is a large oval and his head is a small oval. I guess we need two ovals to draw this bird. Take a look at the pictures here before you start your picture of a flamingo standing in the water.
Let’s get started.
Use a white sheet of paper and hold it big and tall. The flamingo is very tall........his legs are so, so long!
Make a large oval for the body in the middle of the page. Draw two very long legs to the bottom of the page. Now go to the top of the page and draw a small oval.
Add a triangle for his beak and a tiny circle for his eye.
Connect his head to his body with a long CURVY line. It looks like the letter “S”, don’t you think?
Now, color the flamingo. Make the pink really dark and beautiful. When you are finished put the water in the pond and add some pond plants. I wonder if the sun is shining in the sky and in the water. What colors will you use to finish the picture? Will you use some paint, or crayons or markers?
Remember, you used shapes to make your special bird. One shape was a triangle for a beak. Two shapes were ovals, one large for the body and one small oval for the head. Make sure you stand the flamingo in the water!
I am excited to see your finished work! Have fun!

Hello Grade 4 Artists,
You have been working on a drawing of you and a friend dancing. There were examples I put in the lesson to show you how the legs and arms need to bend and reach. Now, let's complete the picture.!
Please add a floor. You need a floor to dance on, right? And you understand that to complete the picture you will need to color ALL of the space around you and your friend dancing. Is there anything else you would like to include in the picture? Maybe your floor has a pattern? Or maybe there is a light hanging from the ceiling or a picture on the wall?
Make it colorful. Have fun.

Hello Grade 4 Artists!
I hope you are able to get outside to do some running and jumping. Maybe on rainy days you were even dancing to music when you were inside.
There is an artist whose name is Edgar Degas who loved to paint pictures of dancers. He loved ballet dancers because of the way they move their arms and legs. Look at the picture.
Moving your arms and legs is fun when you dance, don’t you think? This week you are going to draw a colorful picture of yourself and a friend dancing. Notice how the arms of the dancers are stretched up high and the legs are bent when they move.
Here is a short video about Degas, and how he showed the movement of the dancers.
So let’s get started. Here is what you need:
A sheet of white paper that you will hold the tall way ( vertical). We learned that.
Some markers and crayons, or even paint if you would like. Let’s make it colorful!
Remember, this is you! So make sure you add your face, your hair, your clothes and your shoes. Be sure to stretch those arms up high and bend those knees.
Make your drawing as big as the paper.
Have lots of fun.

Hello Grade 4,
This is the second week of our lesson. I hope you are having fun putting the faces of people into the bus windows. I bet you had to think about how different people look, like their skin color, hair color and hairstyle and their eye color or that they wear glasses or earrings .Maybe someone is wearing a hat. Maybe you are in the picture! These details will make your picture so interesting.
This week you can complete your picture by finishing the road and the sky. Is it sunny, cloudy, or maybe, raining?
I am looking forward to seeing this artwork. Please send it along when you are finished.

Welcome back, Artists!
Please submit a photo of the 2 assignments we have completed (Lessons 1-4) to me: jtasho@tcabrockton.org
This week we are starting a new assignment. *This will be a 2 week project.
Do you remember the last lesson we did before we left school? We were making a diagram of the face, an egg shape, and then figuring out where to put the eyes, nose and mouth. It would be something like this.
To start you make an egg shape. Then you put a line across the face half way down. You place the almond shaped eyes on the line then add the eyeball into the center of the almond. Now you are ready to add the nose and the mouth that you want. Now that we reviewed that, you are ready to make your drawing of faces on a bus.
You are familiar with what a school bus looks like. And you probably have seen the BAT buses that transport people to work and other places in Brockton. But have you ever seen a double decker bus? Check out this red one on its way to Fenway Park. It is filled with faces of people. I can only see the side of the faces of some people. That’s called a profile.
Instructions:
Use any colorful art supplies you want for this picture.
On a white paper draw a double decker bus as wide as the paper.
Hold the paper horizontally (across ). This is a long and tall bus. Think about a rectangle when you draw it. And don’t forget the circles for all the wheel parts.
Now you need to draw a lot of rectangles for two rows of windows. They should be in a row. You are ready to put all the faces in the windows now. Maybe they are your friends or people from your family. Or maybe they are strangers?
Make sure all the faces are colored, as well as that very bright RED bus. You probably should make a road at the bottom of the paper too. How will you finish the sky?
Have fun!

*This is week 2 of a 2 week lesson.
Hello Artists!
I hope you have had fun stacking all of the ingredients for your ice cream sundae. It must have reached the top of the paper by now! As you complete the drawing this week, don’t forget to add the table or tablecloth with a pattern, and of course, a spoon. It will be finished when you color all of the background.
Have fun!

*This is week 1 of a 2 week lesson (just like 2 art classes).
Hello Grade 4 Artists,
You already learned how to place a container on a table correctly, add texture and make a color plan when we were in class at TCA. This lesson also has a table line, a container, and a color plan. Let’s do it!
Instructions:
You will need a white piece of paper about 9x12 inches. If you have a larger one that would be great. Please use crayons and markers and colored pencils if you have these. Otherwise, use what you have. Hold your paper vertically (this is a tall picture).
Let’s pretend you are making the largest and yummiest ice cream sundae, ever! You need to start at the bottom of the paper by putting a fancy dish to make this seem really special.I know what you’re thinking... you need a table line for the dish. Yes! Don’t forget to jump over that dish when you draw the line.
Now is the time to stack all of the ingredients, one at a time. How many scoops will you add? How many kinds of ice cream will you choose? Choose enough to make the sundae almost reach the top. Add all the details like sprinkles or nuts or chocolate syrup or bananas or candy or pretzels or? Are you adding whipped cream and a cherry?
Add a pattern on your tablecloth to complete the picture. Oh, what about that spoon? Going to need that!
Wayne Thiebaud is an artist who paints lots of pictures of sweets and desserts. See above. He loves to use bright colors and fill up all of the space. Let’s do the same.
Have fun, Happy Easter!

Hello fourth grade artists! It is week two of our project. I hope you had fun putting the ingredients for your lunch or dinner or dessert in a group. I love to keep arranging them in different ways. I have included a picture of my group arrangement when I made dinner last night.
Have you heard of the artist, Andy Warhol? He made a large painting of a can of soup. You can see it here. I wonder if that idea came from his plan for making lunch?
I hope you are having fun creating your picture of how you grouped the ingredients together that you or a family member needed to prepare food.
Your drawing should be completed this week. Keep it in a safe place until we return to school. Then we can share and then guess what was made from your picture.
Miss you all!

Instructions: Hello Grade 4 artists! Here is your assignment for this week and next.
Tell a story with a drawing of each of the ingredients needed to make something for dinner. For example, you know there will be hamburgers with salad tonight. What are all the things you need? Ground beef patty, maybe cheese slices, some ketchup ( draw the ketchup bottle), and salt and pepper ( draw the shakers). And you need the top and bottom hamburger bun.
For the salad you will need lettuce, and maybe cucumber and tomatoes and a bottle of salad dressing. Maybe your mom or dad has the recipe in a cookbook that they use. Draw all of the ingredients in the recipe. Don't forget to put them on a table. You know how to do that!
Use whatever materials you have on hand (pens, pencils, colored pencil, crayon, markers). Have fun. Please do not do my example. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
