This final week will be given as time for questions about finishing lessons and to catch up on work already assigned. Grades close on June 12 at the end of the school day. I cannot accept any work after this time.
This has been a challenging situation for everyone. I am so proud of the students who have put in so much effort and have made great creative choices when completing their lessons. It was a pleasure to review your artwork.

Hello artists,
I’m just checking in to see how your flamingo drawing is coming along. I bet you are adding beautiful, bright color. Those flamingos are really bright! Make sure you finish ALL the background. You might need to decide what kind of day you want it to be... maybe rainy or cloudy or maybe there is a rainbow in the sky. I wonder if anyone used paint for this lesson. That would be fun!

*This is a 2 week project.
Hello Artists,
This week we are going to use ovals to make a beautiful pink bird. It is called a flamingo. A flamingo likes to hang out in lakes and ponds where plants grow too. This special bird has very long legs. His body is a large oval and his head is a small oval. I guess we need two ovals to draw this bird. Take a look at the pictures here before you start your picture of a flamingo standing in the water.
Let’s get started.
Use a white sheet of paper and hold it big and tall. The flamingo is very tall........his legs are so, so long!
Make a large oval for the body in the middle of the page. Draw two very long legs to the bottom of the page. Now go to the top of the page and draw a small oval.
Add a triangle for his beak and a tiny circle for his eye.
Connect his head to his body with a long CURVY line. It looks like the letter “S”, don’t you think?
Now, color the flamingo. Make the pink really dark and beautiful. When you are finished put the water in the pond and add some pond plants. I wonder if the sun is shining in the sky and in the water. What colors will you use to finish the picture? Will you use some paint, or crayons or markers?
Remember, you used shapes to make your special bird. One shape was a triangle for a beak. Two shapes were ovals, one large for the body and one small oval for the head. Make sure you stand the flamingo in the water!
I am excited to see your finished work! Have fun!

Hello Grade 3 Artists,
I hope you have been having fun putting lots of scoops of ice cream on your very tall sundae. By now it must have sprinkles and whipped cream and maybe some hot fudge dripping down and a cherry!
This week I want you to work on the tablecloth and add a pattern. Make a color plan. You know how to do that! This picture will be finished when you color (or paint?) the background. Remember, the background is all of the space that is left in the picture.
Have fun!

*This is a 2 week lesson just like 2 art classes.
Hello Grade 3 Artists,
Wayne Thiebaud, an artist who paints lots of pictures of sweets and desserts, loves to use bright colors and fill up all of the space. Let’s do the same.
You have already learned how to place a container on a table correctly, add texture and make a color plan when we were in class at TCA. This lesson also has a table line, a container, and a color plan. Let’s do it!
You will need a white piece of paper about 9x12 inches (if you have it). If you have a larger one, that would be great too.
Please use crayons and markers and colored pencils if you have them, if not, use whatever you have.
Hold your paper vertically.... this is a tall picture.
Let’s pretend you are making the largest and yummiest ice cream sundae ever! You need to start at the bottom of the paper by putting a fancy dish to make this seem really special. I know what you’re thinking. You need a table line for the dish -- Yes! Don’t forget to jump over that dish when you draw the line.
Now is the time to stack all of the ingredients, one at a time. How many scoops will you add? How many kinds of ice cream will you choose? Choose enough to make the sundae almost reach the top. Add all the details like sprinkles or nuts or chocolate syrup or bananas or candy or pretzels or? Are you adding whipped cream and a cherry? Add a pattern on your tablecloth to complete the picture. Oh, what about that spoon. You're going to need that!
Have fun!

Hello Architects and Builders! I miss you all.
I hope you are working on a building that is unique like the picture of the pagoda or cathedral. This week you should concentrate on all the details you want to include to make it special. Will you include a stairway or railings? A fire escape or side door? What does the back of your building look like? Did you add a roof with a chimney or smokestack? I can’t wait to see what ideas you decided to use.
I would love to see any art assignments that you have completed. Just send a picture to my email! jtasho@tcabrockton.org
Have fun! Mrs. Tasho
Hello Grade 3 Artists and Parents/Guardians,
You have now completed 2 art projects. Since we are not going back to school, if you would like to share your work with me, I'd love to see what you've created. You can email a picture of your work to: jtasho@tcabrockton.org
Your lesson this week is connected to the mural you made in the hallway at school that we filled with tall buildings. Our project this week will be a sculpture. That means you can see it from all sides. *This is week 1 of a 2 week project.
Let’s start our sculpture of a building! You already know a lot about the things you need to include in a building. Remember how you carefully added lots of windows in rows to that mural? Some had curtains or shades or window panes, some even had a stained glass window like the church.
The front doors had steps and some had hand railings. I remember one with a fire escape. The roofs of the buildings were not all the same and the patterns from the shingles you added were great! Some buildings had a flag or chimneys or a cross, if it was a church. What kind of building are you going to make?
Instructions and Materials:
2 containers that you can stack to make a building. For example, you might use a cereal box and a mac and cheese box. Or a round building could be made from an oatmeal container and a small plastic bottle. Look and see what you can find!
Tape the 2 shapes together.
If you have paint, go ahead and paint the building. If not, old gift wrap or Christmas paper turned on the white side could be used to cover the boxes. Or maybe you have colored paper you can use? Be creative with what you have!
Add all the other parts of the building with markers or cut out shapes, or both if you'd like. Take your time working on this, remember, this is a 2 week project.
Have fun!

*This is week 2 of a 2 week project.
Hello Grade 3 Artists,
Oops! Last week I left out markers as another material you may use for this lesson. Please use them if you would like.
I am thinking that your shelves are filled with interesting shapes by now and they are many different sizes. Maybe you have already made your color plan (like we always do) and now you are ready to color everything. EVERYTHING includes the space behind the groceries and any background space in your picture. Did you remember to include yourself in the picture?
Have lots of fun completing your artwork this week!

*This is week 1 of a 2 week project (like two art classes).
For your drawing you will need a sheet of white paper. 9x12 is fine. If you have a larger paper that would be ideal. If you have the materials you could cut out the shapes for this lesson instead of drawing. If you draw I suggest you draw with pencil first and then make your color plan like we always do. Use crayons or colored pencils or both.
Instructions:
Position the paper horizontally and start by making 3 rows of grocery shelves. Use up most of the paper but leave space to add yourself ( a back view like we did for the school mural in the hallway). You need to fill all of the shelves with several of the same items like you would see at the store. Make sure your items are different shapes, sizes and colors. This is your ideal store. Fill the shelves with foods you would love to buy. I bet candy is on your list. When you draw several of the same items to fill the shelves you will start to see some patterns develop. You know about this already! Make sure your shelves are full.
Be creative and have fun! Happy Easter!

Hello artists,
I hope you are enjoying “building” a VERY large burger. Don’t forget to include the humor (funny) part. I can’t wait to see what idea you came up with. This is the last week of this project so be sure to complete it. It must be really colorful by now! Did you draw the table line? You know how to do that.
Remember not to put it under the plate. Place the line higher and “jump” over the burger There’s the table! Do you think there is room to add a drink beside your burger? Maybe it has a straw in it?
Wayne Thiebaud is a famous artist who makes lots of paintings of food, especially desserts. How cool! Take a look at the picture I included of Wayne’s painting of ice cream cones. His painting is on the cover of a book. Maybe you could do what he does someday?
Remember to keep your art in a safe place until we return to school and share our work. Miss you all.

Instructions: Hello Grade 3! Hope you are keeping busy with your school work and getting outside too. Here is your assignment for art for the next two weeks.
Draw a hamburger with as many ingredients that you can possibly think of. Make it as tall as the paper. Put the hamburger on a plate. Add one thing you don’t usually include in a burger.
For instance, I may choose to add a donut. That will make the picture funny (adding humor).
Start working from the bottom up. Draw the plate , then the bottom bun and then start adding as many other things you could put on a hamburger.
Don’t forget the ketchup and mustard, and the one funny thing that really doesn’t belong in there! The taller the burger, the funnier the picture. I bet you will put so many things stacked on that bun that they will start to fall out.
Use white paper if you have it and whatever materials you have for the coloring or painting.
Have lots of fun!
-Mrs. Tasho
