This final week will be given as time for questions about finishing lessons and to catch up on work already assigned. Grades close on June 12 at the end of the school day. I cannot accept any work after this time.
This has been a challenging situation for everyone. I am so proud of the students who have put in so much effort and have made great creative choices when completing their lessons. It was a pleasure to review your artwork.

Hello Artists,
Last week you started the lesson using ovals, and straight and curved lines to draw your birds on a wire. This week, please finish, if you haven't already.
Did you know that there are lots of different types of birds? Let’s think of some. There are canaries, and parrots, peacocks and emus, doves and hummingbirds and owls! Ducks, swans and geese are birds that love water. There are so many birds.
This lesson is all about you using ovals to make any picture you want from the new list of birds I gave you. Maybe you have a book at home about a bird. If you would like to draw more than one bird, go ahead. Make sure you think about all of the space around the bird. Is it sky, or grass or water? There are lots of ways to finish your picture. I can’t wait to see this picture you are doing all by yourself using ovals.
Have fun!

Hello Artists,
This will be a 2 week project. This week we are using what we know to do something new. We already know how to make curved lines and we have drawn ovals before when we made fish. Let’s make some birds using ovals. The oval can be his body and a little oval can be his head. You need a small triangle for his beak. Now use some straight lines for his legs. Maybe the bird is flying away. You need to add his wings spreading out. And don’t forget the tail.
Let’s add the wire for the birds to stand on. The first picture has a straight line. The wires near my house have curved lines like the second picture. What do your wires look like out by the street?
Birds that are black are called ”blackbirds”. But not all birds are black, are they? You can make your birds any color that you want. After you color them you could paint all of the beautiful sky. Maybe the sky is filled with clouds and it is a very grey day. Or maybe a sunny day! It might even be raining. I can’t wait to see what your birds look like on the wires.
Have fun!
Hello Grade 2 Artists,
How is your garden coming along? You must have a lot of flowers by now. Did you remember to put the bridge in the picture? Are your flowers different colors or all the same? Are some of your flowers tall and others short?
Do you remember when we were in class I would tell you that coloring dark makes the picture pop off the page? It really gets your attention when you do that. Check your picture and see if there are any empty spaces. Maybe you need to color the sky and add some clouds, or maybe it is raining. Maybe it is sunny and there is a bright blue sky! What color would the sky be if it was raining?
Have fun finishing your garden just like Monet’s!

Hello Grade 2 Artists!
This week you are going to be an artist just like Claude Monet. He lived in Paris, France and he loved to paint flowers, especially gardens. He had lots of gardens at his home. There is a very famous painting called Monet’s Garden. It has a bridge in it that you can walk across. When you do, you can see water lilies in the pond. You can see the picture with the bridge here.
Let’s make a painting of Monet’s garden with the bridge and lots of flowers. The bridge is made with three curved lines. Those lines are like sad face lines. I see some straight lines in between. I guess we need curved and straight lines to make the bridge.
Now we are ready to fill the garden with flowers. I know I need some straight lines for the stems but........not all flowers stand up straight! They might bend over because they are so tall. Or maybe the wind is making them bend. That means we need a curved line for those flowers.
Now you are ready to start. Get your white paper and hold it across. Yes, that is horizontal. Remember? Get your paints ready or whatever materials you have to add color. Maybe some markers?
Make the bridge all the way across the paper. Go ahead and fill the paper with flowers that have straight stems and curved stems.
If you would like to see more of Monet's garden, I also included a link to a preview of one of my favorite stories, Linnea in Monet's Garden by Christina Björk, illustrated by Lena Anderson. You can see lots of Monet's artwork as well as photos of his beautiful home. I hope you enjoy it!
Have lots of fun! *This is part 1 of a 2 week project.

Hello, Grade 2 Students!
This is week 2 of our lesson: Creating Motion and Movement. I hope you are working on a very happy picture of yourself. Dancing can be lots of fun. Don’t forget to make the picture with your clothes and your shoes. This is you! Maybe you have had a dance recital before and wore a special outfit. You could draw that. Make sure you finish the picture by coloring all of the empty spaces around and above and below the dancer, just like the artist, Edgar Degas did.
I would love to see this art lesson and the other art lessons you have completed if you are able to share them. Just email a picture to: jtasho@tcabrockton.org
Have fun!

Hello Grade 2 Artists.
I hope you had a nice break and got outside to do some running and jumping. Maybe on rainy days you were even dancing to music when you were inside.
There is an artist named Edgar Degas who loved to paint pictures of dancers. He loved ballet dancers because of the way they move their arms and legs. Look at the picture below.
Moving your arms and legs is fun when you dance, don’t you think? This week you are going to draw a colorful picture of yourself doing a dance. Here are two drawings of children having lots of fun dancing. Notice how the arms are stretched up high and the knees are bent when they move.
Let’s get started! Here is what you need:
A sheet of white paper that you will hold the tall way ( vertical). We learned that when we were back in school together.
Some markers and crayons, or even paint if you would like. Let’s make it colorful!
Remember, this is you! So make sure you add your face, your hair, your clothes and your shoes. Be sure to stretch those arms up high and bend those knees. Make your drawing as big as the paper.
Have lots of fun.

*This is week 2 of a 2 week project.
Hello Artists,
How is your giant sundae coming along? How many scoops of ice cream did you include? I hope you remember how to add the table line. When you draw the line (not under the dish) don’t forget to jump OVER the sundae and finish the line on the other side. Now that dish is ON the table. Good job!
What kind of pattern are you adding to your tablecloth? What is your color plan? Are you going to make the background blue like the example or do you have a different idea? I can’t wait to see your colorful creation!
Have lots of fun!

Hello Grade 2 Artists, this will be a two week project.
Do you like ice cream sundaes? They are so yummy! What would I need to make one? A dish to start, maybe a fancy one like the ones we made for our special cupcakes, remember? We should add lots of scoops of ice cream which look like circles or maybe sometimes a half circle. What kind of ice cream will you pile into your dish? Let’s make this the tallest treat ever. Add some strawberries or chocolate sauce and nuts and sprinkles and a cherry, or two! Make your sundae reach the top of the paper. You will need to add a spoon too.
I challenge you to add the table line. We learned this when we made the cupcake painting. Add a pattern on the tablecloth. That will look fabulous!
Materials:
A white paper that you will work on in a vertical position
Any materials you want to draw with and then color.
Have fun and Happy Easter!

Hello grade 2 artists! I hope you have been having fun making different kinds of fish using ovals. I am looking forward to seeing your work when we come back to school, so keep it in a safe place until then! Did you see the picture I included today?
This is a painting called The Goldish by Henri Matisse. These fish are not living in an ocean or pond habitat, are they? What kind of fish are they? I do see some plants in the picture too. This painting is so colorful! It makes me happy when I look at it. How about you?
Have fun finishing your fish picture.

Instructions: Hello Grade 2! Hope you are working hard and also having fun indoors and outdoors. Here is the assignment for all of my grade 2 artists. This is a two week project, just like it would be in my classroom.
We have completed a painting of two ducks swimming in a pond the last time we were together. Remember? You did a great job following directions and being creative at the same time. So, now I am going to challenge you to make another water drawing or painting using as many kinds of fish whose bodies begin with an oval. We used several ovals to draw ducks already.
Don’t forget that fish may have patterns from the scales and on their bodies and fins. They can be very decorative!
Use whatever size white paper you have (12x18 would be great but not necessary) and draw and color with whatever materials you have.
If you would like to paint, go for it! Put the water plants in the ocean or pond you are making for the fishes' habitat.
Do you think some big fish might eat smaller ones? Be creative!
Be sure to follow the directions and have fun!
