This was my favorite tool to explore of all. We were able to create an entire lesson and make it into a video that we could show students we were currently teaching. I chose to make a cultural presentation on the country of Spain. As a Spanish teacher, I believe that the language is very important but the students also need to learn about the culture that it comes from. My goal in my classroom is to teach the culture of each Spanish speaking country. Since it has its own dialect, food, dances, etc. This is one lesson that I give to students. It has real photos from when I studied abroad in Spain. I am very excited to share that experience with my students.
Look at the face to face online hexagon in the picture on the left. This is what we are working with now with COVID-19 being such a huge part of our lives right now. We are not able to learn in school so we have to do everything online. It is very hard to move an entire class online without any warning. Especially since we did half the school year in person. If this happened when I was teaching then I would send out videos like the one above in order to keep my students updated with the culture of each Spanish speaking country, and the culture of the language itself. I would have to find ways to adapt and for example using Adobe Spark.
Adobe Spark would go under the Modification portion of the SAMR Model. It can be used to redesign entire classes for situations like ones we are experiencing right now. Teachers and students can use this to make videos, slide shows, ads, etc. If we have a class online or we need to move class online, adobe spark is a good tool to use to create lessons that students can view at any point versus teaching a lesson everyday at 11 am. This way lessons can be asynchronous.
I was able to create a lesson about something that I get very excited about when I teach it in my classroom. I was also able to practice creating a lesson that I could teach remotely. This is needed during this time. We don't know if schools will ever go back to "normal", as a teacher who is starting her career in teaching this makes that even more terrifying. I am just glad I have this added into my toolbox in order to be able to use it in the classroom and outside the classroom remotely if need be.
