Coding is another way of saying computer programming. I have never done coding before. In this research we had to build an app using Code.org and create our own app that we can use in lessons for our classroom. In my app I created a way to teach about what present tense verb conjugations are. I started with creating 3 images that represented ar, er, and ir verbs. They then lead to the pages that had a description on each page. For example once the viewer clicks the picture that says ar the app will bring the viewer to the ar page. We had to write some code in order to get the pages to transfer to one another.
Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs (5a). This research had us personalize our own lesson and make it into an app. We had to create code that I had never done before and while it was a challenge, it was actually a lot easier than I thought. It all just had to flow.
This research falls under the redefinition part of the Samr model. Redefinition is defined as tech that allows for the creation of new tasks, which was previously inconceivable. Writing code and being able to create something like an app from this code is a huge technological development, I created an entire application for people to use with a few sentences of words and symbols.
Overall to be completely honest when I saw this was an research experiment, I thought why would a teacher need to learn how to write code? I started watching the tutorial videos on how to write the code and create the app and realized that this is just another technological skill that I should have for my toolbox. I may not ever NEED to write code. But maybe I will have students one day who will find this interesting and who would like to use an app in my classroom someday or create their own based on their classroom knowledge of Spanish.
