Alfredo De Angelis

Alfredo De Angelis (1910–1992) was a pianist, composer, and orchestra leader whose music became synonymous with the golden era of danceable tango in Buenos Aires. Known for his clear, rhythmic style and accessible arrangements, De Angelis created orchestras that were especially beloved by dancers for their steady beat and melodic clarity. Signature tracks like Gloria, and Mentiras showcase his ability to balance elegance with dance floor energy. His orquestra produces very fluid valses, e.g. Soñar y Nada Mas, A Su Memoria and milongas, e.g. La Mañana.

De Angelis’s recorded legacy is impressive, with over 500 tracks spanning the 1940s to the 1970s. 

DJ opinion: Alfredo De Angelis is a solid choice for any DJ, especially with his recordings from the 1950s. Both his tangos and valses are playful, melodic, and carry a restrained energy, making them perfect for shifting the pace in the middle of a milonga.
