The playlists published on this site are autogenerated from publicly available discographies. In total, I collected over 12,000 individual tracks and developed a custom program, GoPlaylist, to search for them on YouTube and Spotify. I chose YouTube as the primary platform since it supports search by track title, orchestra name, and—most importantly—the year. Using Google APIs, I gradually processed all tracks and assembled the playlists.
Because I relied on a free account, the work was limited to about 80 tracks per day, and the entire process took nearly a year to complete. Please note that some discrepancies may exist, especially where multiple recordings share the same title and orchestra but differ by year. While the likelihood of mismatches is low, my current goal is to make these playlists publicly available. Over time, I plan to review and refine each playlist, but with more than 12,000 tracks, this will be a long-term project.
Acknowledgements
I am deeply grateful to the many tango enthusiasts around the world who have dedicated their time and passion to collecting, digitizing, and cataloging tango recordings over the years. This work would not have been possible without their contributions and inspiration. In particular, I would like to acknowledge:
The Tango By Year series created by Dag Stenvoll and Michael Lavocah
The TDJF (TangoDJ Forum) Facebook community
All tango friends and communities I have met across the globe
The countless DJs whose music I enjoyed at tango marathons and festivals throughout my tango journey
And last, but certainly not least, my wonderful wife Larisa, life and tango partner, whose love and inspiration continue to guide me in learning, studying, and dancing tango.
