Game Designer
Stump'd was created in Unity. In the game, I contributed significantly to the design of the alternative controller, which added a unique, immersive experience for players. The first part involved designing the base, including the platform and the wooden stump. The stump was crafted from papier-mâché, with tin foil embedded at the top to create a conductive surface. This surface interacted with the axe, which had tin foil on its tip, completing a circuit when the axe made contact with the stump.
I worked on refining the interactive design to ensure that the physical action of chopping the stump provided immediate and satisfying feedback in the game. Additionally, I contributed to balancing the game's difficulty to align with the controller's mechanics, ensuring a challenging yet accessible experience.
I also led playtesting sessions to evaluate the controller's performance and the game's overall user experience. Through player feedback and interaction analysis, I identified areas for improvement and implemented design changes such as making the timer for the game slower and attributing more points towards a successful play.
Designing the visual aesthetics of the controller and aligning it with the game’s theme, created a cohesive game. I ensured that the controller's design complemented the game's aesthetic to create engaging experiences.
