Choose-your-own-adventure
In a kingdom named Somaire, a rift between the dream-world and reality causes nightmares to turn into living forms. Gifted with the power of a god, a lone human hero restores peace to the land.
A thousand years later, the land is in turmoil once more, but the saviour is long gone. Who will rise to take up the mantle of hero and confront the darkness once more?

Narrative Designer
I created this project in Twine and it was my first solo narrative project. In this choose-your-own-adventure narrative game, I started by making a world building document, focusing on creating the foundation of the society. This involved researching different religions and understanding the role they play in societies. European folklore particularly inspired me to make the character San, who is the god of the people of Somaire. He is also known as the sandman in the story, responsible for giving people good dreams and taking away their nightmares.
Following the creation of the observant religion came the geography, understanding the countries and the world that the story takes place in. Somaire is constructed as a country with 5 different regions. Each region has its own specialty or purpose. For example, Noxisse is the most popular region, housing the sacred cathedral, and the region of Vorlis is known as the cursed land where the cruel god once governed.
Designing the characters and understanding their motivations and personalities was the next part. I loved creating the villain, Vermir. His character is based around the concept of inherent power, and whether that is what truly makes a person strong or whether it is their will and inner strength.
The main character, Nyx, follows the path of a hero's journey, starting by testing her strength in a series of trials. These trials consist of player choices, and the player has to make the right choice in order to proceed; otherwise, the story ends. The images below depict the flowcharts for two of the trials in the game. Her character embodies bravery and resilience, continuing to face darkness even in isolation.
