Scripps College Academy

Scripps College Academy (SCA) is an intensive, multi-year, college access and success program for high-achieving young women with limited resources who seek to become the first generation in their families to attend college. Through a rigorous summer residential experience followed by monthly programming throughout high school, SCA Scholars develop the confidence and skills to be well-prepared college applicants, successful college students, and professionals who create positive, lasting change.

Eligibility: Grades 10th-12th (Students must apply during 10 grade).

Applicants do not need to be residents or citizens to apply. We accept applications from all over the world and do not differentiate based on country of citizenship or status in relation to US citizenship.

Courses available: Studies of race, class, and gender through fine arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social science

The SCA Scholars program is a multi-year, intensive pre-college program for female students from the greater Los Angeles area and the Inland Empire. SCA Scholars participate in a rigorous summer residential experience followed by monthly events throughout high school. SCA focuses its recruitment on students who will be the first in their family to attend college and who may lack the resources in their home, school, or community to fully prepare to enroll in a top college or university. 

SCA Scholars begin by staying on the Scripps College campus for two weeks to experience what it is like to live among their peers and study at a private, liberal arts institution. For many SCA Scholars, this is their first time on a college campus and their first experience living away from home. Students further their academic preparation by exploring issues of race, class, and gender through an interdisciplinary academic curriculum 

Following the Summer Residential Experience, SCA Scholars take part in additional academic programming throughout high school. These weekend activities include college prep workshops, science research opportunities, educational field trips and faculty-led book clubs.
