This week's demonstration painting has some relatively large leaves, requiring painting on a large plane surface (men or 面). They could be done using kōrokutensai-hō; outlining the leaves then filling in the interior. A more elegant way is to use a series of slightly overlapping boneless (mokkotsu-hō) slanting (chokuhitsu) strokes. Four such strokes fill the rectangular space in the illustration below.
In the case of the tsuwabuki leaves, instead of making the strokes parallel, they should radiate outward from where the stem is located like this:
The spike coming out of the bottom is the stem.
