Besides introducing the tarashikomi painting technique to produce a mottled appearance on plum tree trunks and branches (drops of paint on a still wet surface from earlier strokes), last week's painting demonstration used senbyō-hō (outlines) to paint the plum blossom petals. This week's demonstration painting, red plum blossoms (akai ume -- 赤い梅), uses the mokkotsu-hō (boneless) approach to painting blossom petals. It also introduces a new term, koke-ten. This is the name of the round dot strokes shown in R2.3 Brush Strokes.
