Week 1 : Deliverables List Process
Hello! Welcome to our first weekly update:
We started off with a 10 minute brainstorm activity where we wrote down all of our grievances with Hayes as quickly as possible.
Afterwards, we reviewed the BGDA* outcomes presentations, comments from the Department of Design D&B Commitee feedback booth, and added any missing insights to our brainstorm wall.
*The Department of Design at Ohio State University hosted the annual Butter Goeller Design Affair workshop on March 21, 2024, led by renowned Italian designer Fabio di Liberto. The workshop engaged over 100 students in a co-design process to reimagine Hayes Hall for the purpose of fostering a sense of belonging and identity.
Group 1: maintenance related
Group 2: use-of-space related
Group 3: Hayes identity related
Group 4: management/policy related
Then, we met with Blaine, our project manager, and identified which items were within our scope.
Pink Sticky Notes: Problems that are already being addressed, or will be addressed in the future; therefore, not within our project scope.
Yellow Sticky Notes: Problems that are completely within our scope.
Double Yellow Sticky Notes: Strongly advised areas of focus.
Physical notes were translated digitally on Miro. Similar notes or duplicates were combined onto one sticky note.
Chart organization:
X-Axis: Significance of the project, measure from low to high priority
Y-Axis: Scale of the project, in terms of size and labor
Color Coding:
Blue: Issues requiring built solutions (ex. tables, chairs, etc.)
Pink: Issues requiring policy enforcement solutions
Purple: Issues requiring space designation solutions
Light Blue: Branding
We also made this mass of sticky notes...
Here's a closer look:
We took the core 'wants' we gathered from students' input, and expanded on each by providing specific ways those 'wants' could potentially be addressed.
From there, we organized these mindmaps into a list of potential deliverables.
Week 1 Reflection:
First and foremost, we're designing a service to meet the needs of current and future design students.
This means there will be built solutions such as furniture, but just as important are the systems we implement to sustain the longevity of our designs.
Realistically, we won't be able to address everything on our list. The goal is moreso that we set an example, so that future students are inspired and empowered to continue implementing solutions in the spaces outside of our scope for this summer.
See you next week!
