The wooden framework hanging from the ceiling is to create a functional, visible and accessible plane for the manipulation, the adaptation of the facilities over time and the attachment of hanging elements. This wooden framework creates a spatial unity by removing the fragmentations caused by structural downstand beams. At the same time, it allows the user to confer personal identity to each space, projecting smaller scales of appropriation within a large scale.
Personal tables are smaller, lightweight, movable desks that comfortably fit an individuals laptop and mouse. Assembly of the final, full-scale personal tables is underway. On the left are 1/6th scale models demonstarting how the tables are meant to be stacked when not in use.
For the group work areas, we plan to re-finish 9 of the 210 worktables. We will be painting or dying the table surfaces and edge bandings black, and painting the legs of the table a contrast color. We will also be re-finishing at least 9 of the exisitng 210 desk chairs in order to appropriately match the new 210 aesthetic.
In the fall, each student will be assigned a milk crate to store their materials. The milk crate storage system will be implemented in each of the four classrooms. There is enough space underneath the pin boards to hold a total of 50 crates, or two rows of 25. This will be enough crates for all design students this coming fall, with the addition of the new major, 10 additional crates will need to be installed in the future.
See you next week!
