Along with a small team of undergrads, I helped design and build a Mars Rover prototype in order to test the viability of a four wheel model instead of 6. It ran off a Raspberry Pi and an Arduino with some motor drivers. The wheels were 3D printed in flexible filament to make airless tires that still absorbed shocks.Â
Polycarbonate doesn't laser well, but it's what we had!
The base was a 6 mm acrylic sheet with some logos
After printing the tires, hubs, gears, and bearing mounts, we assembled the parts together with the motors and electronics.
