Rain

I wrote this piece for an on-line competition which was on the theme of water. The voting was by the public and although it didn't win this was the only piece to be shortlisted by all the judges. Later it was selected as one of 24 pieces from 430 submissions to be programmed by the Chicago Ensemble.

Starts with a few drips, quickly gathers pace, then a downpour. Dies away as it started (reversing the pattern from the start). The sun comes out as the last of the raindrops drip off the foliage. As the rain starts and stops I've tried to capture the random nature of the drops until they become (or come out of) a continuous downpour. At the end I've tried to capture the rain-washed look of the countryside as the sun comes out and everything is fresh and gently dripping.
