Research of metal elements of neck jewelry in Volodymyr Shukhevych's book “Hutsulshchyna” in five volumes (1899-1908)
In 1899-1908, five parts of the study “Hutsulshchyna” by Volodymyr Shukhevych, a Ukrainian ethnographer, folklorist, publicist, teacher and public figure (May 15, 1849, Tyshkivtsi - April 10, 1915, Lviv) were published.The publication contains photographs of Hutsuls wearing traditional metal jewelry and drawings of metal elements (zgardas, ducats, cheprags) of necklaces by Seweryn Obst, a Polish artist, painter, graphic artist, illustrator, and ethnographer.
Shukhevych's work has gained great popularity among fans and connoisseurs of folk culture and has become an important milestone in the history of Ukrainian ethnography. And all of this is due to its source material - ethnographic, folklore, and art history.
