A research expedition to Yavoriv district, Lviv region, was conducted
In addition to conducting research in scientific sources, the project involves the study of metal elements in museums and collectors in Ukraine, and the first expedition was conducted in the Yavoriv district of Lviv region.
The project's research is being conducted by Zoriana Kuryliak, founder of the Starlight necklace design studio and designer of necklaces; Rostyslav Shmahalo, Doctor of Art History, professor at the Lviv National Academy of Arts, author of the two-volume book Encyclopedia of Art Metal, and Solomiia Rybotytska, a graduate and lecturer at the Lviv I. Trush Professional College of Decorative and Applied Arts, and cultural manager.
In the creative heritage of the artist Olena Kulchytska, a special place is occupied by numerous drawings of Ukrainian folk costumes made during 1928-1946. Most of them (more than 100 drawings) were included in a unique publication of 1959, the album "Folk Clothing of the Western Regions of the USSR". These are watercolors and pen and ink drawings that document artifacts of folk art and, in particular, jewelry (embroidery, metal decorations, etc.).
The album featured samples of clothing from the western regions of Ukraine: Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Stanislav (Ivano-Frankivsk), Drohobych, Lviv, Volhynia, and Rivne regions, with the indication of specific settlements where the artist researched and sketched samples of folk costumes.
In 2018, the Lviv-based publishing house «Apriori” published Olena Kulchytska's album-catalog "Folk Clothing of the Western Regions of Ukraine".
According to the museum's website, the collection is filled with a significant number of women's jewelry, including “salbas” (coin jewelry), patsyorky, corals, and dukachi.
In particular, dukachi can be found in the catalog “The Golden Fund of Ukraine” and salba can be found among the illustrations to the article about ethnographic treasures of the museum's collection.

First 3D models of metal jewelry elements were developed
Two training companies from the Republic of Poland have been involved as project partners from among organizations from the EU and the UK, which will provide valuable knowledge and practical skills in working with ZBrush and Rhinoceros programs for 3D jewelry modeling.
The training will help Zoryana Kurilyak, founder of the Starlight necklace design studio and designer of necklaces, to deepen her professional skills and enable her to 3D model metal elements for the Starlight necklace brand's signature necklaces to make her jewelry different from those of other designers.
During the training, the first 3D models of metal elements for necklaces have already been created.

The history of ornamental jewelry in folk art reflects the history of the development of the Ukrainian people, its cultural and religious traditions, the surrounding nature and traditional crafts.
Folk craftsmen made jewelry with great love, putting their creative imagination into it. And metal necklaces are wonderful examples of folk art that testify to the great artistic abilities of folk craftsmen - from Trypillians to modern ones.
During the research in scientific sources, the main milestones in the history of metal necklaces in Ukraine were identified.
It was found that a significant number of historical metal necklaces can be seen among the exhibits of the National Museum of History of Ukraine.
Project "Decorative metal: metal elements of traditional Ukrainian neck jewelry" is supported by the European Union under the House of Europe programme.
