Early concept for an alternative to a Marine
The Shadow Battlecruiser is a unit that was in beta and never made it into the real game. The model was later reused for the Gorgons. It only had one attack, it fired a Yamato Cannon with no energy/cooldown cost and had the range of 500
Unused concept for a Terran unit that utilized Protoss technology in StarCraft II. It utilized something similar to a psi blade, and "plasma armor" and an oxygen bubble

Produced from the Factory, could create a whirlwind of radioactive death around it
Concept art for a Marine upgrade that could engage enemy air units more efficiently. Gives the Marine rocket pods on their shoulders.
Echo has only appeared in the Galaxy Map Editor.
She originally possessed a unit portrait similar to the ones used by Sarah Kerrigan and Nova. This was later altered in a patch to the one currently featured. A reference to "Echo-17" having "nuclear clearance" exists in cut lines for the mission "Death from Above.
Concept art for a Marine upgrade that would increase its base attack and replace its weapon with a Wrist Cannon
Early in the development of StarCraft II, the Diamondback was known as the Cobra. It was in the game engine as early as 2006 and was armed with twin Eviscerator cannons which dealt very heavy damage against armored targets. It had the ability to target air units as well. Concept art depicts a variety of cobra configurations, sometimes with a single cannon, sometimes with two, with the locations of the cannon(s) varying between the center of the craft, or its shoulders.
The Diamondback has three unused upgrades available in the StarCraft II Map Editor; Burst Capacitors, Hyperfluxor and Tungsten Spikes. The Tungsten Spikes upgrade increases the attack range by 1, probably being the old name for Tri-Lithium Power Cells. Hyperfluxor is a complete upgrade that increased the diamondback's attack speed by twenty percent.
The Burst Capacitor upgrade remains as a half-finished ability in the editor. It allows the diamondback to fire a charged up shot every five seconds (the charging process is nullified if the Diamondback fires before it charges up).
Data in the map editor suggest that Swann would have been able to build diamondbacks in Co-op Missions. In addition to retaining its upgrades from Wings of Liberty, it would have benefited from Swann's Immortality Protocol, being able to be rebuilt in the field upon destruction.
The Hellion went through 600 design changes over the course of development. Various names were pitched, including the Jackal, Loki and Fire Bike. In its earliest stages, the vehicle was a hoverbike much like the Vulture, and possessed a powerful anti-infantry railgun. It was added to the game as the "Jackal" by February 2008 in conjunction with the marauder as a replacement for the Firebat. It was renamed the "Hellion" by September.
The initial design settled upon was a three-wheeled vehicle. The response on the development team was rather mixed about the three-wheeled version, and while taking an opportunity to quickly make non-lethal civilian variations, the four-wheeled version was made by June 2008. The three wheeled version was reused for the Outback Hunter.
The Nomad was originally a Terran unit in StarCraft II, but it was felt that it looked too low-tech for its role. It was redesigned and renamed Vulkan, then to Nighthawk, and finally Raven. Nomad wreckage can be found on maps such as Blistering Sands and Desert Oasis, and doodads of Nomad wrecks can be used in the map editor. The Nomad model can also be found in the StarCraft II map editor.
Guardians were a type of Terran unit that appeared in a 2006 build of StarCraft II. They had icons that indicated the ability to repair units as well as use spider mines and auto-turrets. They appeared to be a cross between a Raven and a Science Vessel.
The Hercules is a type of Terran tank. It appears in the Galaxy Map Editor as an unused unit file. It is without animations and its tracks are without texture.
The Super Crane Advanced is an unused Terran unit from Wings of Liberty. It is found in Galaxy Map Editor files.
The Super Crane (not advanced) can be found as a doodad in the mission Cutthroat in guarded areas where scrap salvage can respawn. Its model is accompanied by junk unlike the Super Crane Advanced.
The Mine Drone was an automated Terran unit produced by the Nomad. It appeared in early builds of StarCraft II
The Nomad expended energy to create the drone which formed a stationary structure. The drone created four mines similar to spider mines, then cloaked itself and the mines. Each mine did 50 damage plus an extra 50 against armored units. The drone replaced detonated mines, a process which temporarily left it uncloaked
The Zeus Lander is a modified Hercules Dropship, a massive transport ship able to carry 30 units at a time, deploys them almost instantly, and if the Lander is destroyed the units inside are ejected to survive, albeit slightly wounded. The major difference is the Zeus Lander has much more HP, as well as an attack used to combat air units. The attack is similar to the Battlecruiser, rapidly firing laser blasts at targets.
Dominion transports were called "Transport Trucks" in development of Wings of Liberty, but the term was used again in Heaven's Devils. They were used in older versions of The Evacuation in the case of the former, and possessed 12 transport slots. They have been replaced by armored personnel carriers in the game.
The Shredder was a mobile unit produced from the Factory.
It could create a whirlwind of radioactive death around it. It dealt roughly 20 DPS to both ground and air units, but didn't affect units on different elevations.
The attack was automatically disabled if friendly units entered within range. It was particularly effective against Zerg opponents.
The Shredder could not attack while moving and needed to be deployed for it to use its ability. It burrowed into the ground, but did not require detection to be seen.
Was removed from the game as testing showed it confused players and was instead used for mineral denial other than its intended use of map control.
The Predator was a Terran air unit to be featured in StarCraft II. Present in the game in August 2007, it was removed by November.
It appeared to be analogous in unit balance to the Valkyrie frigate of StarCraft: Brood War. It fired four lasers per attack, making it powerful against groups of weaker ships but weak against heavily-armored ships like the Battlecruiser. The weapon was called Flurry.
It was also to be the basic air combat unit for the Terran faction. The Predator was constructed at the Starport, and did not require any other research or further buildings to construct, allowing it to take advantage of the reactor's additional build queue.
The Predator could only engage enemy air targets, and was incapable of attacking enemy ground troops.
The Predator was equipped with a point defense laser system which destroyed incoming enemy projectiles
PIGs were designed as a proposed Terran infantry unit for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. They were resocialized prisoners for the Terran Dominion, given cheap armor and weapons, and sent to the frontlines as a means to supplement marine ranks.
PIGs were a proposed alternative to the Marine as the basic Terran front line infantry. They used heavy weapons and shields, and were outfitted with cybernetics. However, design for PIGs did not make it past the concept stage.
The concept of lightly armored marine alternatives were later realized in the trooper, although they had a different appearance.
The Firebat was set to return in StarCraft II, but was canceled during development. They were added in September 2007; by January 2008, they were replaced by the marauder. It was found that their role overlapped with hellions.
Firebats were produced from a factory, as they had bigger, more powerful suits that gave them a greater ability to withstand enemy fire, which granted them more hit points. They could still fit into bunkers and could be healed by medics. They cost 100 minerals and 50 gas, had a build time of 40, had 90 HP, and dealt 6 (+6 vs Light) damage x2.
Firebats once had a "Bearclaw Nozzle" upgrade, later renamed Incinerator Gauntlets.
The Firebat appears in the singleplayer campaigns.
The Zeus Battle Tank was a scrapped Terran unit concept in StarCraft II of an armored mechanized tank, with two turrets on the bottom manned by soldiers. The concept bears resemblance to early art for the Thor
Targeting Drones were a type of automated Terran device constructed by Nighthawks/Ravens.Nomads. They are flying, stealthed, and immobile. They shone a laser on enemy targets, increasing the damage of the victim unit by 50%. It could only target one unit at a time
The Targeting Drone was created with an energy cost and did not have a timed life.
The Marauder was originally equipped with dual concussion-grenade launchers which reduced a single biological unit's speed immediately by a set percentage. A charging Zealot would still move quickly after being struck by a grenade. In March 2008, the Marauder had 80 HP and dealt 6 (+4 vs Armored) damage and immobilized its targets.
It cost 75 minerals and had 0 armor. By May, it once again slowed its targets. In September, it dealt 10 (+14 vs Armored) damage, had 150 HP and 1 armor, and cost 150 minerals and 50 gas. In October, this was changed to +6 vs. Armored, 125 HP, and 100 minerals and 25 gas, and its build time increased from 25 seconds to 30. By September 2009, the marauder's attack was changed to 6 (+6 vs. Armored) x2, which was reverted to one attack dealing 10 (+10 vs Armored) damage by the StarCraft II beta.
The Dropship used to be very similar to the StarCraft version. It has been given a healing ability, transforming it into the Medivac Dropship; thus, the Dropship can no longer be built in StarCraft II.
The Dropship touched down to unload units, behavior that was previously seen in the original StarCraft alpha, but not the final edition.
There was a one-second delay between every dropped unit.
Blizzard was toying with the possibility of returning the Dropship and making the Medivac Dropship an available upgrade in June 2008.
