Travelling through the State Forest Reserve - Indigenous Trees
I departed from Knysna by taking the Old Cape Road North through the Gouna State Forest Reserve. I was forunte to see a Lynx walking along the road before it leapt into the bush. I also saw a Kudu, Warthogs and a Bushbuck. Beautiful sightings. This is a lovely scenic route that takes you through indigenous forests along Kom SE Pad to Prince Alfred Pass (R339), The forest kept the ride cool, however when you move out of the forest, the temperature increased I previously did the Prince Alfred Pass with my brother-in-law, Sean, in 2015.
There was traffic on the Prince Alfred Pass so I had to take corners without moving over to the right-hand side of the road. Generally the pass is good but the further North you travelled the road deteriorated.
I stopped at Angies G-Spot, however the kitchen was closed so I headed to the Padstal 400m further on for breakfast.
After breakfast I continue North. The road wound itself up the narrow valley crossing the Voogt SE rivier many times. Luckily there were proper cement causeways for crossing the river. Eventually the road moved away from the river and took a steeper gradient up the mountain.

Oyster Bay Resort Camp Site
Once over the mountain, I had a short break at Avonture before taking the R62 to Humansdorp. This area is known as the Langkloof which is famous for it's deciduous fruit farms. I stopped at the Die Kraaltjie Padstal for a cup of rooibos tea and Koeksuster.
At Kareedouw, I took the R402 that includes the Kareedouw Pass. I am not sure why it is called a pass as is appears as straight and uncomplicated as any other normal road. The R402 met up with the R102. I turned East and after about 3km I turned South onto the gravel road. The gravel road to Oyster Bay was very corrugated and wound through the beautiful rolling farmlands.
When I arrived at Oyster Bay camp site, Christoff greeted me and went out of his way to make me feel welcome.
I setup camp under a large wild fig tree and Christoff arranged a bench and table so that I could work on my WEB site. I booked to stay for 2 nights, so tomorrow was set aside to work on my web pages.
Once it had cooled down a bit, I took a walk to the beach and then up to The Nautilus Restaurant for dinner. The place has a wonderful view overlooking Oyster Bay and the beach. It was busy and had a great atmosphere.

View from the Restaurant
The Oyster Bay Resort shows the results of the long drought in the area. There was grass but I think watering it becomes expensive.
There is grass but it looks patchy. The facilities are maintained and were clean. Each camp site has water and electricity and rubbish bin. There is a swimming pool, coffee shop and laundry on the premises. The resort is walled and does not have a view unless you climb up onto the deck where you get a view of the ocean.
When I woke up it was cool and misty. This continued for most of the day.
Oyster Bay is a nice place to chill out. All the essentails are available and you can walk to the beach, the store and the restaurant. I was the second camper on the premises. The 3 chalets were occupied. I spent an extra day to catchup on my WEB site and get the 2nd batch of laundry done.
When I woke up it was cool and misty. This continued for most of the day. At 16h00 I took a stroll down to the beach and then I walked up the hill to the The Nautilus Restaurant that has a wonderful view over Oyster Bay and the ocean.
