Today was a great day with 16 gravel and tar road passes.
The narrow gravel road through the Paardekop and Prince Alfred passes was easy going except when you encounter oncoming traffic coming around blind bends travelling at speeds that are too fast for this type of road.
As we had a lot of distance to cover today, we did not stop of Angie's G-Spot for a drink. Luckily I had a chance to do this route again on my own in 2018 where I made a point to stop here.
We stopped in Graaff-Reinet to refuel. Sean turned off to Nieu Bethesda to join his wife and family and I continued to Bloemfontein.
I always enjoy the ride from Graaff-Reinet to Colesberg as you travel through beautiful countryside and passes. I stopped for a break at Colesberg before taking on the last boring stretch of road to Bloemfontein.
This time the trip was going to be a bit more fun. I was about to depart when a guy from Botswana had stopped on his 1190 KTM to refuel and was also leaving. I do not believe a KTM has a "slow" mode. I kept a distance of about 500m behind him and reached Bloemfontein in record time.
The temperature had been in the mid-30's for most of the day and as I approached Bloemfontein I could see a huge thunderstorm over the city. By the time I arrived, the storm had moved on and the temperature dropped to about 19C.
Below is the riverside view at Angie's G-Spot - A must stop for a cold beer and meal.
