College coach fired for rejecting recruit after his state's drug laws
The baseball coach of Texas Wesleyan University was fired after rejecting a recruit for his state's drug laws. He wrote in the email that incoming students usually had trouble passing their drug test. He also stated in the email that the school had decide not to take people from that state and that he can thank his politicians for making those law changes. The other baseball coach that worked with Mike Jeffcoat says that their main priority is to play baseball, not to judge potential students by their state laws. Slabach, who works at the school says, “We do not tolerate discrimination,”. The school apologized to the student and hopes that they don't come across anything like that again.
I believe that it was really wrong for the baseball coach from a university to say that to a potential student. It's wrong to say something like that to anybody. I think the school should give the student a full ride scholarship just for being discriminated. This can also act as an eye opener to states and the laws that they enforce. If a baseball coach doesn't feel right about a student coming from a state that allows drugs in the community, not a lot of people are going to trust that person either because they are exposed to drugs and it is easier for them to get their hands on it and get away with things that they know can harm their body. Coming from a state that doesn't allow drugs, I think people will feel safer around that person even though they shouldn't think that way.
Sincerely, Sophie

A lawmaker's argument against arming teachers? Most are women and 'scared of guns'
State Representative, Harry Shiver makes this comment during an interview with AL.com. He says that the majority of the staff and faculty at schools are women and most of them would not like to own a gun. He also says that women have more things to worry about. "I'm not saying all (women), but in most schools, women are (the majority) of the teachers," Shiver told AL.com. "Some of them just don't want to (be trained to possess firearms). If they want to, then that's good. But most of them don't want to learn how to shoot like that and carry a gun." He also said, "Most women wouldn't like to be put in that position,"..."I know from South Alabama, they wouldn't." Shiver also said that the teachers would get mistaken for the shooter in a situation like that and the police would shoot the wrong person. As can be seen, he firmly disagrees with the gun control laws.
I appreciate that he doesn't want the gun control laws to go through, but I don't agree with him when he says that women are 'scared of guns'. As a girl myself, I am grateful for my education and i don't regret learning how to protect myself. I think anyone would appreciate it if they had the opportunity to learn how to shoot a firearm. I also think it's better to learn how to shoot rather than not know and when you are put in a position where you have to use it, people die because of the lack of education. Learning how to protect yourself is never time wasted. There are plenty of men and women who love to spend their time around guns and plenty of men and women who don't like guns. I also think that i speak for everybody when i say that NO ONE would ..."like to be put in that position". These are very sexist statements that i don't agree with and it's sad to say that we have people like this in congress that are making these kind of decisions for us.

Polar Bears can face extinction faster than thought, studies say
Lately, studies have shown that polar bears are starving. Researchers had put collars on nine polar bears and recorded the bear's activities. Four out of the nine bears were eating less calories than they had lost while traveling to hunt. The diet of a polar bear requires a bear to eat one adult ringed seal every ten days. "Polar bears spend more than 50 percent of their time hunting and are successful less than 2 percent of that time"(World Wildlife Fund). Hunting has been harder since the ice is melting faster and due to this, polar bears have been traveling a lot more which means they are wasting more energy on trying to search for food.
I have always loved animals and have been informed about global warming since I was a little girl. My cousins, sisters and I have always talked about this issue and still continue to talk about the same problems that the world has up until this day. My main concern is, why isn't anyone doing anything about these problems? Global warming is a HUGE issue and I don't understand how some people don't believe that this is a problem in the world that has to be fixed as soon as possible. Global warming is a problem that us humans began with all of the pollution we let into the atmosphere, it's our job to start cleaning it up. Many people talk about trying to keep the human footprint small when the it's so big that we're starting to kill off innocent animals. It's time to change our ways!
