"Beautiful Girls are Needed." Chinese tech firms under fire for sexist job ads
This article from CNN explains that big companies all over China are releasing sexist ads and discriminating against women. Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, Huawei are the companies that they mentioned and all of these have made job advertisements that used women to bring in men. I also read that all of these companies denied that they were discriminating against gender. These big companies also said in their advertisements that men are preferred because men would do a better job than women. The article also found a comment by a man that worked at Tencent, "The reason I joined Tencent originated from a primal impulse. It was mainly because the ladies at human resources and that interviewed me were very pretty."
The people that made these advertisements should be ashamed of themselves. No one should influence you to desire someone else for their appearance. Pretty isn't everything and some women do have the potential to be smarter and better at work than some men. Everyone was born by a mother, without women, there would be no one. Everyone should respect every girl like they respect their mother. Gender discrimination I think is worse than race discrimination so we should be working twice as hard to get this message across that women are already great. We don't have the Women's marches to encourage ourselves, we have them so that men can realize that we deserve as much respect as they do.

Owners of 'Starry Night' house fined for graffiti
The couple that owns this house is being fined $100 a day because their house is painted like 'Starry Night' by Vincent Van Gogh. The city officials say that this violates the cities sign ordinance and is considered graffiti. Nancy Nemhauser and her husband, Lubomir Jastrzebski argue that their house was painted like this for their autistic son who finds this very comforting.
In my opinion, I find this very sad because this is their house and they should be allowed to paint it however they want as long as it's appropriate for all audiences. If this is graffiti then at least they're not tagging up public places or anywhere else. Everyone should be able to express they're creativity in their home. This article also makes me wonder why city officials don't allow amazing and inspirational scenes like this house but they allow people to keep their yards cluttered with their things. A beautiful house like this should not be a problem for this city.
Sincerely, Sophie
