The Boy Scouts is dropping the word 'Boy' from its main program as girls prepare to join
This group is no longer known as the Boy Scouts, but rather Scouts BSA. This group is for children ages 11-17. The reason for this sudden change of mind is because the Boy Scouts are loosing more and more members each year. They seem to notice that a lot more girls are joining the Cub Scouts that is for children ages 5-10. The Boy Scouts are ready to welcome them starting next year in 2019.
Finally, people start noticing that girls like camping and doing fun stuff too! I've personally wanted to join the Boy Scouts since I was around 9 years old. I knew I could never join, but my parents always took my sisters and I camping to the Mojave desert and I thought it would be fun to learn more things about nature with friends. My dad also taught us to ride dirtbikes and I taught myself how to make fires and spears by shaving off the ends of sticks with a pocket knife. Thinking about my past, they should have put me in Boy Scouts because I could have hurt myself really bad if no one was around. Now that I think of it, women know we're amazing, so do men. I think men work together to keep women down so that we would actually need them for something. I'm glad that the Boy Scouts decided to start letting in girls.

University teachers are exploited, too
Southern Illinois University is inviting alumni who have earned their Ph.D to teach at the University for free. As a teacher, they are required to grade paper, attend staff meetings, advising students and lecturing all for no pay. This means that the school is getting paid the money that is being made by the alumni. Not only is the school not paying them, but they're taking away their salary. This should count for 'free labor'.
After earning your Ph.D, you are left with a lot of student loans which you have to pay off in the next couple of years. Why is someone going to waist their time teaching and having to do this labor for free? If the alumni likes to teach and wants the job experience for the future, then that's good, but the school shouldn't be taking the money for themselves, that's very selfish of them. Teachers should be appreciated more for creating doctors, lawyers, and so many more that make our communities safer and for encouraging the young people to receive an education. Since it is Teacher Appreciation Week, I think this is a pretty hot topic that we should think about a little bit more. Teachers and parents create future leaders.

Prom isn't a fantasy, it's a reflection of our(racist) reality
A high school teacher shares her thoughts on how she feels about prom night. She gives a few example of promposals. One reads, "Do u wanna be like a n----- and hang at PROM?" and another reads, "If I was black I'd be picking cotton, but I'm white so I'm picking u 4 Prom?" and she also says that even her own classmates jump a little when they read the book, to Kill a Mockingbird because of the discrimination against people of a different race. So why are teenagers being so racist nowadays? She continues to see these racist remarks and actions around the school and especially during the time around prom. We continue to ask ourselves, "When will someone start doing something about this bad habit that we have of being racist"? This question goes for all and many wonder why we claim to have equal rights when many people are still being discriminated upon because of their sex or race.
The answer is, IT ALL STARTS WITH US PEOPLE!!! Kids like me, we pick up racist remarks from our parents. Sometimes I tell them that it's not right to think that way because there are many kind people that are out there of different races. This problem is for parents to fix. If their child did not get it from them but rather a television show or their friends, they should explain to them why it's wrong to discriminate against one another. Parents should also teach their children to respect different cultures and religions because this can also hurt other's feelings or even make them angry and we should always try to avoid conflict as best we can. One thing that parents could do is show love and compassion to their children so that they can learn to give love and compassion to other people.
Sincerely, Sophie
