These clubs and choir that I participated in make me feel very accomplished and proud of what I can do. Although my love for learning music had not really come to me until I was in the 6th grade, 2015, I have learned so much and continue to practice singing and playing new songs.
In the future, I really want to use my talents to help others. By becoming a music therapist, I know that I can listen to people and help them relieve their stress by learning music. I want to share with them how soothing music could be. This job will mean so much to me, not only because I will be doing what I love, but I will have the opportunity to change people's lives by comforting and healing them.
This is me at one of my guitar lessons
I have dedicated a lot of time into learning how to play various instruments. I play a total of four instruments. The first instrument i learned how to play was the drums at the age of six. The second instrument I learned to play was the recorder. I learned how to play that instrument at the age of eight. At the age of eleven, I discovered the ukulele and decided that I would learn how to play it. I searched on YouTube and I taught myself how to play the ukulele all by myself. When I was thirteen I moved up to a guitar. At the end of the school year, I became the lead guitarist for my choir group.
Escolania Pacifica first came to my school in 2015. That's when I finally learned my passion for learning music. Fr. Ted and Mr. Vicente really encouraged me to keep learning music as much as I can. At that time, I was one of the few alto harmonizers. I took all their advice that they gave me and I learned a lot of different music techniques that help me make music sound better today. I first started playing the ukulele for them in 2016 and in 2017 they decided I was good enough to start learning how to play the guitar.
I began to take guitar lessons on Sundays at my school. Mr. Julio was a really good guiter teacher and took his time teaching every student at their own pace. It wasn't long until I became the lead guitarist of a group of six guitarist. As the only female guitarist, I felt like I had accomplished something important. I was a faster learner than all of the others and I caught onto learning different techniques and different melodies very quickly. We played a lot of performances and I was allowed a few solos.
My last and greatest performance with Escolania Pacifica was during summer break of 2017 in Santa Barbara. We all took a bus there and set up the stage. Two of the other guitarist and I had been practicing to do a trio for the performance. We played a traditional spanish melody called A la Nanita Nana. Both of them played the down beat while I plucked the melody. It was a great performance and everybody seemed to enjoy the last time we'd perform together.
As can be seen, I really enjoy music in a lot of way and hope to be doing this for the rest of my life. My dream is to become a music therapist so I can be able to play and teach music to others. I would love to do this job as a living.
I can see myself doing this job and helping people as much as I can. I really want to make a difference in people's lives. It's also really important to me that others realize how powerful and distressing music could really be. I want people to realize that there are different ways to heal other than medication. I want people to be naturally healthy and live life like they're meant to. I want to give second chances to people. I want to inspire this society to welcome kindness and to give to others.
