Every year, my family and I go to Ocotillo Wells to do my service hours. We take the whole Martin Luther King Jr. weekend off to go camping to the desert. There, the LAFD holds a scavenger hunt and raffle to support widows and orphans. This year's scavenger hunt was 27 miles long. Every year, the scavenger hunt has a different theme and this year, 2018, we had to dig in the sand for poker chips. We ride our dirt bikes through the trail and try to get through all the sites that are set up so we can be entered into the raffle. The rides are really fun because we usually go with friends that we don't see very often. The event is held in the afternoon when everybody is finished riding there dirt bikes and has completed the scavenger hunt. A lot of people attend the event and it gets really crowded. Many people win prizes from the raffle and everybody has a great time.
I really enjoy keeping this tradition of going camping and supporting the widows and orphans because it makes me feel better knowing that i'm helping others. I want to continue helping people in any way i can and supporting the poor and needy.
It's also important to me that everybody realizes how great kindness and compassion could be. Understanding, respect, compassion, and kindness are all really good morals that everybody should practice on a daily basis. These qualities are always great to have!

This past month, I have recently been involved in volunteering at the library. I have been going on Mondays from 6:00pm-8:00pm, right when I get out of school and on Saturdays 9:00am-5:00pm. I can say that it has been a very huge, new, and exciting step for me. I am slowly learning how to do different projects for arts and crafts and shelving books, movies, and CDs. The library is a great place to volunteer because there's always something entertaining to do and the workers are very close and nice. While volunteering there, I met two new friends, Vanessa and Ashley. who volunteer with me. As an incoming freshman at Sacred Heart High School, I have really grown and stepped out of my comfort zone this past year by participating in clubs, one sport, and now, volunteering at the library by my house.
