Teacher criticizes military members
Yesterday on February 6, 2018, I saw on the news that a Pico Rivera school teacher criticized military members for not being highly educated. The student that filmed the teacher in the classroom is being put under protection because of threats. Other parents are mad because they say that the teacher was really good at his job of teaching the kids. For this, the child and his family are being protected because of threats from other parents.
I think this was very ignorant of the teacher to say weather he was good at his job or not. This is something that he could say to adults who could actually defend themselves, but not to children who are still learning things and trust everything that the teachers say. There are plenty of jobs in the military that require high education. Not only that, he should be thankful that there are other people that are defending this country for us citizens. We should support and respect the military members as much as we can so that they can feel appreciated for their service.
Sincerely, Sophie

Officer was fired after he chose not to shoot a distraught suspect
In 2016, officer Stephen Mader was on his way to a call. The man had threatened to kill himself and wanted to commit suicide. When Stephen got there, the man had his hands behind his back. Mader then asked him to show him what he was holding. The man drew out the gun and told officer Mader to shoot him. officer Mader didn't want the man to commit suicide by police. He decided not to shoot the 23 year old man that was holding a gun. For this, the police department had to fire him for not complying with their training. The West Virginia city now pays the officer $175,000 to settle a wrongful-termination lawsuit. The police officer says that he's glad to get past this incident and he hopes that no other police officer goes through what he did.
I believe that the Police Department made the best decision for officer Mader. If officer Mader made those kind of decisions, he would endanger the community, the people who live around, and himself. If a police officer is trained to shoot someone who is holding a weapon, they should automatically understand why they should shoot them. If they are stuck in a situation like officer Mader was, they shouldn't listen to the person and shoot them if they're not complying with what they're being told. I think that everyone in their right mind would listen to and respect police officers. If that person doesn't listen and is not following the laws, the police officer should do what they were trained to do to keep the community safe. If any officer doesn't agree with the law, they shouldn't have that job.
Sincerely, Sophie

Six Journalists get life in prison in Turkey
The six journalists got life in prison for "subliminal messages". Turkey says that they "violated the constitutional order. The journalists were also accused of being associated with the Turkey movement. it is also known that there are more than 70 more journalist or people that work with media who got sent to prison in Turkey as well. Turkey also put the six people in jail for a coup attempt in 2016.
In my opinion, this is very sad and this shouldn't happen to any Journalist. It's really not fair if the journalists come from a different country and are not familiar with the laws of the country that they're visiting. The part that makes it sad is that they don't get to go home with their families and say "goodbye". They can't go home to their families and explain to them what had happened, their families would never know why they couldn't come home. In my opinion, the journalists that were just trying to gather information should not get prison for life because it's not fair that they will never see their home country or family again just because of the job that they chose.
Sincerely,Sophie
