SOLARNET

The Solar and Space Physics Group at Northumbria has a key role in the Horizon 2020 funded project SOLARNET - Integrating High Resolution Solar Physics. The SOLARNET consortium brings together 32 partners from 16 countries: 24 EU research institutions; 6 EU private companies; 2 USA research institutions.

About SOLARNET

It is estimated that more than 600 scientists are actively involved in Solar Physics research in Europe. Funded by the European Commission, SOLARNET aspires at integrating:

  • all group of scientists with complementary expertise in observational techniques, instrumentation, theoretical astrophysics, numerical simulations and modelling.

  • the major European research institutions, research infrastructures, and data repositories in the field of high-resolution solar physics.

The main objectives of SOLARNET are:

  • Foster Networking Activities & Mobility Programmes

  • Conduct Joint Research Activities

  • Ensure Access & Research Infrastructures

Our role

Northumbria plays a key role in SOLARNET, leading one of the 10 work pages and sitting on the executive board. Our contribution focuses on Engagement, Dissemination & Communication.

Our particular objectives are:

● build capacity in the SOLARNET community through Public Engagement training;

● share best practice in effectively utilising outreach to engage and educate, engendering changes in attitudes – both amongst consortium members and the general public;

● share key achievements of the consortium and related science with the wider research community and the general public.

● develop and maintain the plan for the dissemination and exploitation of the project's results and the data management plan.

We work closely with Northumbria's NUSTEM and also EST-Comm (the PRE-EST communication group).
