Richard Morton

I am a senior lecturer and I joined the Solar Physics Group in 2012. I obtained my PhD at Sheffield University in 2010 and also took my first post-doc position there. I am interested in how MHD waves transfer energy from the turbulent motions of the sub-surface convection zone into the solar atmosphere, how the energy is distributed and whether the transfer of energy via MHD waves can explain the non-thermal heating of the Sun's atmosphere. I primarily work on the analysis of observational data from both space- (Solar Dynamic Observatory, Hinode, Hi-C) and ground- (ROSA at Dunn Solar Telescope, CRISP at Swedish Solar Telescope, CoMP at Mauna Lao) based observatories.
