Here are some of the previous news items from the group.
2018
- Northumbria Solar Physics is currently involved in preparing a Horizon 2020 submission with a number of other EU countries to advance the SOLARNET community - fingers crossed!!
- Richard Morton was part of team that found the first evidence for surface modes in the photosphere by using magnetic pores- the work is currently in press in the Astrophysical Journal.
- Only a month left till the DKI Solar Telescope Critical Science Plan workshop (9th April 2018), where we welcome some of the DKIST instrument teams and researchers from across the UK to Newcastle.
- On the week of 19th February 2018 we will have a visit from Dr Spiro Antiochos (NASA Goddard) who is working with Prof. Valentina Zharkova as part of a Royal Society Funded project.
- Preparations are well underway for the DKI Solar Telescope Critical Science Plan workshop to be held at Northumbria (see here for details) - this is one of only two that will be held in Europe.
- The SUNBYTE telescope was successfully launched (video can be seen here) - excitedly waiting for the data!
2017
- Dr Tom van Doorsselaere (KU Leuven, Belgium) came and gave a presentation to the group in MHD wave heating and transverse wave induced Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities (5th-6th September).
- Dr Durgesh Tripathi (IUCAA, India) & Olga V. Khabarova (Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Russia) is visiting during the week of the 10th-14th July.
- Exciting new research published in Nature Communications from Malcolm Druett, Valentina Zharkova & Eamon Scullion - 'Beam electrons as a source of Hα flare ribbons'
- Dr Eamon Scullion is at the Swedish Solar Telescope (La Palma) taking data for the UK from June 12th
- Dr Yuri Litvinenko (University of Waikato, New Zealand) is visiting our group from Monday 5th until Friday 16th June. His research visit is funded by Royal Society International Exchanges Scheme
- SUNBYTE balloon project receives funding as part of the REXUS/BEXUS program (SUNBYTE website)
- Vasyl Yurchyshyn (Big Bear Solar Observatory) is visiting the Solar Group from Monday 10 April to Friday 14 April 2017 as part of Royal Society International Exchange
- The STFC-funded Imagining the Sun outreach project pays a visit to Words by the Water
