Now in its eighth year, the annual Theory to Therapy (TTT) Conference brings together Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), Audiology (Aud), and Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) students from across Ontario—and beyond—to explore the powerful connection between research and clinical practice in the field of communication sciences and disorders.
Founded by SLP students from the University of Toronto in 2018, TTT was designed to foster meaningful inter-university and interprofessional connections among graduate students. Since then, it has been hosted annually at various universities on a rotating basis, continually growing in size and impact.
The theme of the conference this year was Together We Thrive: Interprofessional Approaches to Care. The goal is to help students deepen their understanding of collaboration across medical, educational, and community settings—while also strengthening their ability to advocate for the profession and the individuals we serve, especially when navigating differing professional perspectives.
We were excited to welcome this year’s keynote speaker, Soledad Silencieux, a seasoned SLP at Michael Garron Hospital who brings extensive experience in interprofessional care.
We also hosted an additional keynote presentation from Lisa Virtue, SLP and Program Coordinator of the CDA program at Durham College, alongside a teacher from the Durham District School Board. We also had guest speakers Brianna Guild and Heidi Miller, as well as numerous student presenters.
Our 3 co-chairs this year have shared a couple reflections each on their experience and vision for TTT!
Katarina Miletic: “The Theory to Therapy conference offers students a supportive space to share ideas, build connections, and learn from experienced clinicians and researchers in our field. This year’s theme, Together We Thrive: Exploring Interprofessional Approaches to Care, reminds us of the value of teamwork in our profession. I’m thrilled to help bring the vision of the event to life this year!”
Alyssa Gauthier: “I have had the privilege to partake in planning TTT 2025. Our theme, "Together We Thrive: Interprofessional Approaches to Care," reflects our commitment to helping young clinicians find their voices on diverse teams. TTT 2025 is geared up to be a spectacular day with over 70 attendees, making this conference the largest in-person one yet! I am so grateful to be a part of such a supportive team, and I am even more grateful that they have become an integral part of my grad school experience!”
Adrianna Frucci: “I think TTT is an amazing opportunity to not only develop as a professional, but also be able to learn and converse with other future professionals in this field. I’m hoping our attendees can leave the event with a deeper insight to the field and how important it is to collaborate with other professionals. I hope TTT continues to grow in numbers in the future.”
