You start in a rocky beachside. Go all the way to the left to see a Whacka. Hit him with your hammer for a Whacka Bump that heals 25 HP and 25 FP. Spin Jump above the rock to the left for a star piece. Go to the next area where Flavio and Pa-Patch are arguing when Embers attack.

They can burn you if they attack you. After you defeat them, you'll agree to explore the rest of the island for them. Search the water in front of Pa-Patch for a star piece. Then search behind the rock near the right-side exit for another star piece. In this area there's an item shop and an inn. Head right out of the town and search in the clump of grass for a star piece. From now on you might encounter Putrid Piranhas.

They can poison you, so be careful. Hit the ? Block to the right for a head rattle badge. In front of the box there's another that gives a courage shell. Go to the next area and search the second clump of grass for a Mini-Mr. mini. Jump on the block between the two platforms to reveal a coin block, then go right and look behind the vine for a star piece. Head upward through the cave while using Yoshi if you need to hover over gaps. Use Yoshi again to hover to the box to the left once all the way up to get a shine sprite. Go back right and hit the box to get a thunder rage. In the next area there's a bridge with the missing crewmates on it being attacked by embers. Admiral Bobbery attacks the embers while the others escape. Search in the first bush for an inn coupon. Go towards the screen before the bridge to reveal a secret path to a pipe that leads to the background. Hit the tree for coconuts. Go out and across the bridge and turn sideways to go through the trees for an Ice Power Badge. Grab the shine sprite hidden in the trees before moving on. In the next area, you'll find embers circling a tree. Defeat them and hit the tree and Admiral Bobbery will come down. Admiral Bobbery is in a tough scenario but asks for a Chuckola Cola as his last request. Go back to Flavio who has the Cola but won't give it as it's part of his supplies. Trade a Coconut for it. Give it to Bobbery and he will fall asleep. Whack him with a hammer and he will join your party. His ability on the field is that you can set him to walk in front of you and he will blow up, this can be used against cracked walls and other things. Search the mysterious rocks to the right and then head back to the camp. Talk to Flavio about the rocks and he'll join your party for a moment. Go back to the mysterious rocks and he'll give you his skull rock. Place the skull into the eye and then follow Flavio's song to solve the riddle. Spin Jump on the red rock three times and hit the blue rock with your hammer four times. This will open an opening in the rock. Throw Admiral Bobbery in the opening which will blow up an entrance to the Pirate's Grotto. Search the foreground of the pool area for a star piece. Flavio will leave your party as you enter the cave. Drop down the holes and enter the cave. From now on, you'll encounter Lava Bubbles.

Continue right to find a locked door with a save box. Go up the steps to reach the second level. You can get the shine sprite by hitting the invisible box under it with Koops. Use Admiral Bobbery to hit the blue box by throwing him up there. Before you go, there's a star piece obtainable by spin jumping near the entrance. Hover across the waterfall by using Yoshi and enter the room to the left. Here there is a red switch in the center of the area which rises a platform in the back to get a gold key. Use Koops's shell attack by holding to delay it to flip the switch while Mario is riding on the elevator. Get the key and jump across to the box. Ride this to the top of the rack to find a shine sprite. Also, fall into the barrel in the foreground to find a star piece. Go back to rooms to the right and use your key on the door. From now on you might encounter Parabuzzies.

You can either run or fight for a lot of experience points. Spin jump in this room for a star piece. Walk towards the screen to the next area. Grab the shine sprite near the entrance by using Koops. To the left there's a walkway with spikes that seems to be impossible. but you can use either the tube to roll under it or Vivian to duck before the spikes come out. Go to the next room and grab the shine sprite by using Koops to hit the invisible block under it. Cross the water and use Bobbery to blow an entrance to the next cave. In this area there are more bullet bill blasters. Go to the next room and into the hole in the ship. You can use Yoshi to help you get there. In here is another black curse chest. Search behind it for a P-Down, D-Up Badge. To get the key you'll have to fight an ember, and the key will drop from the sky. Unlock the chest for the Paper Boat curse. Use the move in the boat platform in the previous rooms to begin going backwards through the water in the cave. When you get back to the cannon room, you might have to fight some embers and bob-ombs. Go back to the room with the save point and climb up to the second level. Turn Mario into a boat and go through the small opening in the right of the room. Go through the waterfall to the right to find a defense plus badge. Go back to the second level boat platform and go over the waterfall in the foreground. Now you can get the crank and use it two rooms to the right. You'll have to go through the spikes again to reach the area where you need the crank. Repeat the steps of turning into a boat and falling into the water except go through the path that was opened by the crank. In the next area there are waves that come from the right that blow Mario back to the start. Enter the cave on the right to find a bunch of stranded toads. Go to the pipe to reach the background. Go to the other in the background to reach a paper airplane platform. Use it to reach the two other pipes you couldn't reach earlier. They lead to buttons that make barrels for the toads to escape from the boat. Take the paper airplane all the way to the boat where the toads were stranded and hop across the barrels to meet with the toads. It turns out Don Pianta's daughter and her fiance were stuck with the toads by Cortez. In the next room there are save and heal blocks with the only way forward being Cortez's ship. You will now have to battle Cortez.

He'll send out weapons that deal a lot of damage but can be taken out with lightning. After you defeat him, he'll disappear and then gives Mario the Crystal Star and the chapter ends. Now, Mario still has to escape back to the camp. Go back to the group of people and blow up the wall with Bobbery. Escape and go back to camp where the crew is being ambushed by pirates. Flavio has the idea of getting the ship from Cortez. Go back to him to trade Flavio's skull gem for the skeleton's boat. The two ships will fight each other and Mario will battle Lord Crump again.

Follow TEC's instructions to craft the invisibility potion. Drink it and walk out and right to Grodus' room, right again to his desk. Search the bookcase and put the disc into the computer to complete TEC's task. There's also a short scene with Bowser in Twilight Town. Back in Rogueport, go to the dock and turn into the boat using the boat platform and go around to the left to reach a secret area with a star piece and an HP Drain badge. Go through the alleyway using paper-thin mode in East Rogueport and use boat mode to go across the water and open a chest for a double dip badge. You'll find Merlon in front of his house and he gives a hint about something lost in Hooktail Castle. Go back to the room in Hooktail Castle where you got the key to get the paper-thin mode. Explode the wall to the right with Admiral Bobbery go in and check the chest for the up arrow. Go back to Merlon and give it to him to unlock the ability to upgrade your partners to ultra rank. Near the pipe leading to Rogueport Sewers there's a wall that can be blown up with Admiral Bobbery. This leads to a pipe that leads to the background which leads to Chet Rippo's Adjustment House. He can change your stats without using shine sprites. Return to The Thousand Year Door and hold up the crystal star. In the underground, you may now encounter Magikoopas, Koopatrols, and Spunias.

They are harder versions of previous enemies you've encountered, so they shouldn't be anything too tough. Talk to Professor Frankley, who will say that the next star is in Poshley Heights, which is only accessible by the train that's near the blimp to Glitzville. Only the rich are allowed to enter, so you'll have to talk to Don Pianta. Go back to West Rogueport and blow up the wall all the way to the left for a shine sprite. Talk to Don Pianta who feels sick in fear for his daughter and her husband. Ask Cortez to take you back to Keelhaul key. Talk to them, and they'll say that they lost their wedding ring. Search in and by the trees in the room near the moustache rocks by the entrance to the Grotto for the wedding ring. Return it to the couple and they'll come home. Go talk to Don Pianta, he's feeling better, and he'll give you a ticket as well as giving leadership to his son-in-law. Go to the train, which is right by the blimp to Glitzville and head for Poshley Heights to start Chapter 6.
