The Following is an in-depth guide for the fourth chapter for Paper Mario: TTYD.
You will arrive in Twilight Town, a new area. They are facing a problem. Whenever a bell rings, one of the people in the town turns into a pig. After talking to Gramps, look by his house for a star piece. Search the clumps of grass in the foreground for another star piece. There's a save point and an inn in this area. Go right to the second area of town. In here, go through the first house and talk to the mother. She's run out of food for her and her children. Give her anything that can heal, a basic mushroom will do, and she'll give you a shooting star in return. Search by the tree in the foreground for a star piece. Go in the shop and search behind the rewards sign for an inn coupon. Talk to the shopkeeper who says that the key to the storage room is lost in the woods. Go towards the right to the woods, but a Twilighter demands that you get permission from the mayor first. If you go to his house, he's turned into a pig. Inform the Twilighter of the situation and he'll let you through. Throughout the Twilight Trail, there are many enemies to watch out for.

For the hyper goomba variants, they are the same as normal goombas except they can charge, and they have higher HP. By this point, dealing with these enemies shouldn't be too bad, especially because they take a full turn to charge. For the Crazee Dayzee's, their attacks have some tough action commands, and they can put your partners to sleep, so be aware of that. Don't worry about Amazee Dayzees, the gold variant of the Crayzees. They are super rare and are only needed if you're going for 100% or need to grind some levels. The Clefts are similar to the goomba situation. In the first area of the trail, there's a shed. If there's no boulder, go straight in, but if there's a rock blocking the way, push it from the right side of it. Go inside to get the black key. Right after you get the black key, jump for a coin block. Continue into the woods. In the next area there's a question mark block. Stand on it and jump for a Super Shroom. In the next area there's a pig, a fallen tree and a key just past it. Use Koops to grab the key. Return the key to the shopkeeper in Twilight Town. She'll open the storage for you for free. Inside, there are chests with a life shroom, a boo sheet, a jammin jelly, and a defend plus badge. Open the black chest with your black key for the spirit to curse you with the tube mode skill. Return to the tree and use Mario's tube roll to roll under it. Check behind the tree on the right side for a star piece. In the next area there's a tree. Use Flurrie to blow it away and reveal a pipe. Check behind the pipe for a star piece. Take the pipe to the background and go into the forest. In the first area you'll see a slit that you can slide through with your sideways mode. Go right to get the earth quake item. Travel along the path until you see a question mark block with a hammer throw badge. You'll come across a tree in the way of the path. Use Flurrie to blow. Walk to the right until you see a patch of ground that's differently colored. Use Flurrie to reveal a wooden panel in the floor and use Mario's spin jump to destroy it. Mario will fall through a hole and appear in the background. Push the rock in your way which will also move the rock in the foreground. It will reveal a path for you to go. Go to it and hit the shine sprite you come across. You are now at the area right before the Creepy Steeple. Spin jump on top of the cover on the well to remove it and fall down. Now that you're down here collect the shine sprite. Go to the right. In this area, you'll find Buzzy Beetles and Spike Tops.

You can jump and flip them over on their backs to defeat them. The spike tops, you can't jump on them. You'll have to flip them over by other means. Use the spring to hop back out of the hole and use your roll move to roll under the gate. Go to the part to the left of the part after the gate for a star piece. Go into the Steeple. As soon as you step in, roll under to part in the wall. Continue rolling and under the table for a star piece. Then grab the shine sprite and open the chests for an ice smash badge and a cookbook. Go to the right of the steeple and push the star statue. Drop down the hole and blow away the wall behind the spring to reveal a secret passage. Walk to the right to find a room with a flower saver badge. Go back left and through the door to a room with a flower covered box. Open it to release a bunch of ghosts. One of the boos will ask Mario how many just flew out. The answer is 200. if you answer correctly you'll get an ultra-mushroom. The door to the end of the hallway is locked so go back up to the main floor of the steeple. In this room, enter one of the rooms in the hallway, either towards the background in the foreground, while the boos are spinning. If they spin for a large amount of time they'll throw out Mario. If Mario spin attacks the boos after a couple of times, they'll merge into a single Atomic Boo.

Whichever door you chose, they'll both lead to separate hallways. At the end of these hallways, there are doors and buttons. in the door it leads to a common room with a staircase in it. Hit the buttons on either side to move the staircase towards the button you hit. In the background hallway, there's a slit in the fence you can slide through by turning sideways. Hit the tree here for a golden leaf which recovers 10 HP. Move the stairs toward the screen and go up. Go all the way to the left, using Yoshi when there are gaps, and collect the steeple key. If you put the stairs in the middle area, you'll fall back down to the main steeple area, so put the stairs all the way to the other side, towards the background. Before you go up, Spin Jump the bottom right section of this area for a star piece. Go to the left of the next area, up the stairs and use the steeple key to get in the door. Lower his HP, at least to half, and he'll turn into you. Use flower moves to finish him off. After that, you collect the crystal star and leave the steeple. You are now controlling a shadow version of yourself. Leave the steeple to trigger a cutscene with the three shadows, you have made a bomb to defeat Mario but have lost it, Beldam blames it on Vivian and punishes her. Go back to Twilight Town, where you'll run into the real Mario. It turns out, it's actually the mysterious monster you fought at the steeple, who took your body and name for his own personal gain. All of your partners are also following him. You start fighting him, but you can't damage him. This is because you don't know his true name. You must run away and go into town. Even if you already know his name, you can't use it because the display is missing an important letter. Talk to Vivian in town and she'll complain about her not being able to find the bomb. Search in the clumps of grass for the superbombbomb. Return it to Vivian and she'll thank you by joining your party to help you get your name back. Vivian's ability on the field is that she can go into the ground and take you with her. Use this move to go into the ground near the crows to listen in on them. Most of them have humorous conversations on their everyday life but the one on the right side of the graveyard says that there's someone locked in the steeple that knows ?????'s real name. Go out of the town right, where you'll have to encounter him. Run away and go to the steeple. Enter the well. There are a large number of enemies in this area. Use Vivian to hide from them and slowly make your way to the right area. push the wall up and then use Vivian to have it slide over you. Go through the door on the other side and collect the shine sprite. Roll up into your tube form to roll under the passage. Spin Jump through the panel in the floor. In the next area, search all the wall to the right, in the foreground, in between the windows for a star piece. Roll into a tube again and go through the passage to the left. In this room, there's a green bird. Duck into the ground with Vivian and the bird will reveal that ?????'s real name is Doopliss. Check the chest for the missing letter P. You'll also get a Power Plus badge, a Mr. Softener, and a blue key. Spin jump in the southeast section of the room for a star piece. Leave the Steeple and go into town. Doopliss will appear. This time, enter his name as Doopliss, and he'll run away to the tower in the steeple. Grab any items and healing you need from the town and follow him back to the tower in the steeple, where you encountered him the first time.
