Reasons Why the International Baccalaureate Program is the Ideal Preparation for College and University:

1. It offers academic breadth and depth
   • The International Baccalaureate Program allows for students to study 6 topics (Diploma Programme) for two years in which they are able to study more topics in a subject and to dig deep into those topics for longer.
2. Graduates care more than just results
   • The IB emphasizes a global education, so students are expected to go beyond their studies by engaging with their community through acts of service, activity, and creativity in which they explore what each student is interested in doing to improve themselves beyond their academic skills.
3. It creates independent learners who feel prepared
   • Through the programmes at SKHS, the students are given the opportunity to personalize their learning by becoming responsible for what they are learning and the effort that they put into each project that they are face with.
4. It's a genuinely international qualification
   • As an international programme, the IB Diploma or Certificate is recognized Internationally in which Universities outside of the United States will recognize the prestige of completing the IB Programmes.
5. Universities recognize it - and give credit for it
   • The courses offered through the International Baccalaureate programme are recognized by many Universities in the United States in which Academic Credit can be given; however, it is up to each individual university in how they award credit based on score. 6. The IB encourages critical thinking
   • As the courses that each International Baccalaureate student takes are much smaller than normal courses at SKHS, students are given the opportunity to think more critically about the information that they are learning and apply it to different scenarios that broaden a student's perspective on the topics.
7. You'll never need to learn time management
   • Due to the responsibilities that come with being an IB student at SKHS, students will naturally develop a sense of time management as they will carefully utilize time for socializing, studying, and doing extracurricular activities like Marching Band, Clubs, or Volunteering.
8. It assesses more than examination techniques
   • The International Baccalaureate will assess more than the scores that the students will take in May, but rather their ability to think critically, to research, and to complete projects in classes that will display the best work that they prepared themselves through doing a lab, literary analyses, or even historical investigations.
9. Subjects are not taught in isolation
   • The knowledge that we gain from each class cannot be separated into distinct sections of English, Chemistry, Biology, and History, but rather to be able to take information from each topic and understand how each topic influences or enhances the understanding of another topic.

What Can I Get From the IB Programs and/or Courses?

The International Baccalaureate beyond the points made above allows students to gain access to college credit, scholarships, and opportunities that they may not have if they did not take IB classes.
