Alum Rock Counseling Center
Youth Needs During Covid-19
Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) provides services to under represented families and youth in the East San Jose Area. They provide services such as parent coaching, youth mentoring, life skills development, truancy reduction, academic assistance, child abuse/neglect prevention, individual counseling and drug and alcohol prevention. Many of ARCC's clients meet face to face through the main office, or school campuses. However, due to COVID-19 and the recent Shelter-in-Place, students and parents are not able to continue these services during this difficult time. Youth and parents are still in need of academic and emotional support during this time to help cope and navigate the sudden change of their daily lives.

Diana Medina is an after school teacher at the Family Child Education program for the Santa Clara Unified District. She has previously worked in a private school and childcare working with infants, toddlers, and preschool age children. Her experience working with children has influenced her passion in working with families and children. She recently interned as a volunteer for a behavioral health organization called the Alum Rock Counseling Center, where she served low-income and at high risk children where provided life skills development and academic mentoring for Ocala Middle School students. Her volunteer experience gave her the passion to seek a position serving children and families in high risk communities who are in need of assistance. With her educational experience and passion for helping others she hopes to pursue an M.A in social work to assist vulnerable families and children in need.
